Necessary Roughness: Scoop on the future of the show from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Necessary Roughness from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich's weekly column Matt's Inside Line for the week of 6/20/13.

I just finished watching the season premiere of Necessary Roughness, and I’m really not happy with all of the changes. I really enjoyed the show the way it was. Was this a USA Network mandate to get their renewal? –Lynda
I wouldn’t go so far as to say it was a “mandate,” but if NR has suffered from anything its first few seasons, it’s been a lack of heat, a dearth of buzz. They likely believed they needed a “name” to put more fannies in the seats, and John Stamos is an inarguably familiar (and not unattractive) face.

Happy Endings: Mikaela Hoover Returns-TVLine

According to TVLine's Megan Masters, Mikaela Hoover will be reprising her role, Jackie. For those you who might not remember who Jackie is, she was the young girl that Dave hooked up with right after Alex left him at the alter at the start of the series. Here's a picture from the first episode of Happy Endings that she was in:

Also, here's an excerpt from the original article, which gives some details regarding Hoover's return to the show:

Sources tell us that when Jackie crosses paths with the gang again, it will evolve into a bit of a confrontation with Captain V-Neck, seeing as their fling didn’t end on the best of terms (meaning: on no terms).

The original article includes several other bits of entertainment new, including the following:

• True Blood alumna Jessica Tuck (who recently reprised her role on the late One Life to Live) will guest-star on an upcoming episode of NBC’s Grimm, EW.com reports, playing the mysterious Adalind’s Hexenbiest mother.

• Glee‘s Mike O’Malley will play the lead character’s father in Prodigy Bully, the comedy pilot he wrote and will exec-produce for Fox.

• True Blood‘s Kevin Alejandro has joined Greg Berlanti’s CBS cop drama, playing a new police detective with a disturbing past.

Ellen Barkin is in final talks to co-star in Fox’s Ryan Murphy/Ali Adler blended-family comedy, The New Normal. She’d play the mother of a surrogate for a gay couple.

• Autumn Reeser (No Ordinary Family) has been cast opposite Andre Braugher in Last Resort, Shawn Ryan’s new drama for ABC, playing a lobbyist for her family’s weapons manufacturing company.

• And it’s official: John Stamos will star opposite comedian T.J. Miller in Fox’s Little Brother, playing a man who discovers he has an ex-con for a half-sibling.
