Molly Shannon to Guest Star on Up All Night Season 1-TVLine

Up All Night is staging a Saturday Night Live reunion this fall between funny ladies Maya Rudolph and Molly Shannon.
 
Shannon is set to bring the laughs on a November episode of the freshman NBC comedy, playing an “incompetent associate producer” on Ava, the talk show hosted by Rudolph’s Oprah-like character. (SNL vet Will Forte guest-starred on Up All Night earlier this season, yet sadly didn’t interact onscreen with his former castmate.)

Up All Night: Jason Lee to Woo Maya Rudolph

This isn’t the first time Rudolph and Shannon have collaborated post-SNL. Rudolph dropped by Shannon’s short-lived Kath & Kim sitcom back in 2008. (Here, the two enjoy a mutual lovefest.)

Shannon — who most recently filled a vacant seat over on CBS’ The Talk — enjoyed a brief stint on Glee last season, playing Sue Sylvester’s nemesis.

Scoop: Molly Shannon Joins CBS' The Talk-TVLine

Is Molly Shannon as fast and funny as Leah Remini and Holly Robinson Peete? Fans of CBS’ daytime chatfest The Talk will have a chance to find out when the show returns for its second season. Deadline.com reports than the Saturday Night Live vet will serve as a guest host for the month of September, and will join returning Talk panelists Sara Gilbert, Julie Chen and Sharon Osbourne, as well as recently hired Sheryl Underwood, for next Tuesday’s season premiere.


Last week, the show signed Kardashian matriarch Kris Jenner to serve as a fill-in cohost. Remini and Robinson Peete were not asked to return to the show after serving on the panel for the duration of its inaugural season.

The Middle Exclusive: Molly Shannon to Recur as Patricia Heaton's TV Sis!- TVLine

Capping a week chock full of ingenuous TV hirings, The Middle has scored a casting coup of its own: The ABC comedy has snagged Saturday Night Live vet Molly Shannon to guest star as Patricia Heaton’s onscreen sis!

A show rep declined to comment, but TVLine has learned exclusively that Shannon will play the never-before-seen sibling of Heaton’s harried housewife character, Frankie.

Viewers have already been introduced to Frankie’s parents, played by Marsha Mason and Jerry Van Dyke, but this will be our first time meeting the oft-referenced Janet.

Shannon’s hiring follows news that Heaton’s Everybody Loves Raymond hubby Ray Romano will appear in the show’s super-sized Sept. 21 premiere as a man from Frankie’s past.
