The Big C: Cathy, Sean and Paul related scoop from Zap2it's Carina Adly MacKenzie

Here's some scoop on The Big C from Carina Adly MacKenzie's Monday Kickstart column for the week of 5/6/13.

"The Big C": Not everyone is dealing with Cathy giving up chemo as well as she is. Sean is trying to keep his sister alive longer by growing his version of a playoff beard and trying to get her to wish on shooting stars like when they were kids -- and yes, it's as cute and sad as it sounds. Meanwhile, Paul wants to try to reconnect with Cathy as a couple, but she's trying to get him to move on with someone new ... before she's even dead.

The Big C: Scoop on Alan Alda's return in the season 4 premiere (Episode 4x01 "Quality of Life") from Zap2it's Carina Adly MacKenzie

Here's some scoop on The Big C from Carina Adly MacKenzie's Monday Kickstart column for the week of 4/29/13.

"The Big C": Alan Alda is back as Dr. Sherman, but his relationship with Cathy makes a pretty dramatic shift in the season premiere. His outlook on things causes Cathy to make some big changes in her every day life, which she is really happy about, even if she is increasingly more exhausted from the chemo treatments.

Perception: ‘Veep’ Star Reid Scott to Play Brain Surgeon-TVLine

Reid Scott Cast in Perception

According to TVLine's Megan Masters, Reid Scott will be guest-starring in season 2 of Perception. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Scott's role:

Scott will drop by the TNT drama as a brain surgeon who helps determine the mental stability of a self-proclaimed murderer. What’s more, he’ll have electric chemistry Rachael Leigh Cook‘s Agent Moretti.

Veep, meanwhile, launches its Season 2 Sunday, April 14 on HBO.

My thoughts: In terms of Reid Scott's work as an actor, the only thing that I'm familiar with is his work on The Big C, and I really liked him on that show, so it will be great to see him on Perception. That being said, I think that Perception is a great show, and I also think that the show is extremely underrated and deserves to get more recognition and attention than it has gotten from people so far. I've never been able to get into any of the shows that make up the CSI franchise, but I love crime dramas that take the concept of a crime solving TV show and add a unique to twist to it such as Criminal Minds, The Mentalist, Grimm, or this case Perception.

One of the main reasons why I decided to check the show out when Perception first premiered is because I've been a huge fan of Eric McCormac's ever since he was on Will & Grace, and I always think that it's a lot of fun to watch actors play different roles, especially when the characters that they play are very different from roles that they've played in the past. Eric plays the role Dr. Daniel Pierce perfectly, and starring on Perception has really allowed Eric to show his range as an actor, if you ask me. The character Dr. Daniel Pierce couldn't be more different from the character Will Truman on Will & Grace. That being said, if you're not already watching Perception, I highly recommend checking the show out. It really is a fantastic show.

The Big C: Renewed For a Fourth and Final Season-TVLine

Laura Linney The Big C

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Showtime has renewed The Big C for a short fourth and final season, which will consist of four one-hour episodes. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on The Big C's renewal:

The cancer dramedy’s series finale will air on Sept. 16.

Safe to assume the series will conclude with Laura Linney’s Cathy succumbing to her illness? ”I wouldn’t assume anything about how its going to end,” Nevins warned. “They have a very interesting, novel and form-breaking way to handle where the show is going.”

My thoughts: While I'm glad that Showtime has renewed The Big C for a fourth and final season, I really wish that they had renewed it for more than just four episodes. I think it would have been better if they had renewed it for at least eight episodes like they did with The L Word's sixth and final season. Maybe the writers will prove me wrong, but I don't think four episodes is enough to give the show a satisfying ending.

The Big C: Makes Gabourey Sidibe Series Regular For Season 3-TVLine

According to TVLine's Andy Patrick, Gabourey Sidibe has been made a series regular for season 3 of The Big C. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details regarding Sidibe's promotion:

The upgrade not only makes sense from a quality standpoint — c’mon, the erstwhile Precious is 11 kinds of awesome as smartass Andrea Jackson — but also from a plot perspective. The onetime Oscar nominee’s character and Laura Linney’s Cathy could scarcely be closer if they weren’t surrogate daughter and mother but the real deal!

CBS’ A Gifted Man will be seeing a very special patient during November sweeps: Tony Award winner John Benjamin Hickey.
