Scandal: Enlists Lisa Kudrow for Season 3 Arc-TVLine

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Lisa Kudrow has been cast in a recurring guest-star role in Scandal's upcoming third season. Here's an excerpt from the article:

The Friends actress is joining ABC’s red-hot drama in the recurring role of a powerful and smart politician, per Deadline. The character’s rumored name: Shelley Meyers.

The gig brings Kudrow under the same tent as her longtime producing partner, Scandal Emmy nominee Dan Bucatinsky.

My thoughts: I'm beyond excited about this news for several reasons. For starters, I've been a huge fan of Lisa Kudrow's ever since she was on Friends, and I think she's a really talented actress. The thing that excites me the most about this news is because I've always really enjoyed watching actors and actresses that I like play a wide variety of roles throughout their career, and Kudrow being cast in a recurring guest-star role on Scandal is no exception to that. Considering the fact that I've basically only seen Lisa Kudrow in comedic roles over the years, it's going to be very interesting to see her in a dramatic role. Given how talented Lisa Kudrow is as an actress, I'm very confident that she'll do a great job on Scandal.

Happy Endings: Is Dave and Alex getting back together in season 3 a good idea or a bad idea? (My thoughts on the subject)

Based on a lot of the spoilers that have been released so far for Happy Ending's third season, it sounds like Dave and Alex are indeed going to be getting together and not only that, planning to get a place together at the beginning of the season. Until I'm proven wrong, for the most part I think it's a really bad idea for Dave and Alex to get back together. After all, the show began with Alex leaving Dave at the alter and all of their friends having to figure out how to handle being friends with them after their breakup. If they get together, I feel like that kind of ruins a part of the show's premise.

One thing that makes me feel a little bit better is that based on the spoilers from E! Online’s Kristin Dos Santos that were released today, it sounds like their friends also think it's a bad idea. (Happy Endings: More scoop on Dave and Alex's relationship in season 3) Plus, in one episode they had a cutaway of what they thought were some Dave's worst ideas and one of the things they showed was Dave proposing to Alex. Personally, I thought that whole cutaway of Dave's bad ideas was beyond hilarious. However, in the season two Valentine's Day episode (Episode 2x13 "The St. Valentine's Day Maxssacre), Brad called Dave, Ross, and he called Alex, Rachel, when he was referring to Jane and all of his friends as characters from Friends while he was high on anesthesia from the dentist. I loved that moment, because I feel like it was a clever way of the writers poking fun at the people who have accused Happy Endings of being a Friends rip-off. I hope to god that wasn't the writers way of hinting to the viewers that they're planning to turn Dave and Alex's relationship into Happy Ending's equivalent of Ross and Rachel's on and off again romance on Friends.

Last season they had a fair amount of moments on the show where the writers hinted at the idea of Dave and Penny getting together, and that idea sounds very interesting to me. After all, in the season two Valentine's Day episode Penny mentioned that she's known that it's been one of Dave's dreams to have a threesome with two girls ever since he was in middle school. That doesn't sound like something that a person would tell a person that they aren't fairly close to each other. I've always loved Dave and Penny's scenes together. I think Zachary Knighton and Casey Wilson have great chemistry, and I think they play off each other very well. In short, if the writers do insist on having Dave and Alex get back together in season three, I really hope that they breakup again at some point and that the writers at least really explore the idea of a Dave and Penny romance for a little while.

Californication Exclusive: Friends Alum Maggie Wheeler Reunites With David Duchovny for Arc-TVLine

According to TVLine's Kimberly Roots, Maggie Wheeler will be guest-starring in several episodes of Californication's sixth season. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Wheeler's role:



Wheeler, who recently guest-starred on Curb Your Enthusiasm and The Closer, will play a male-hating self-help guru who becomes entangled with David Duchovny’s Hank.

The gig will be a reunion of sorts: In addition to appearing in Season 1 of The X-Files and the 1989 movie New Year’s Day together, Wheeler and Duchovny also dated for a while.

The sixth season of the sexy Showtime dramedy will premiere in early 2013.

My thoughts: While I do really like the show Californication, it's definitely not one of my all-time favorite TV shows. Personally, I think the show has a little too much sexual content in it, even for my taste, and I usually have a fairly high tolerance for sexual content in TV shows and movies. That being said, I'm really excited to watch Maggie Wheeler on Californication. Janice has always been one of my favorite recurring guest-star roles on Friends, and I've always thought that Maggie played the role perfectly. Plus, the description of the character that Wheeler will be playing on Californication sounds very interesting.

Exclusive: Courteney Cox and David Arquette Developing Ensemble Friends-Esque Comedy-TVLine

In what is sure to be one of pilot season’s hottest properties, Courteney Cox and David Arquette are developing a comedy series that sounds a lot like Friends: The Next Generation.

Sources confirm to TVLine exclusively that the estranged but cordial marrieds will soon start pitching to the networks an ensemble sitcom that “explores the ups and downs of relationships across a group of friends, spanning 10 years.”

The project, tentatively (and aptly) titled 10 Years, is being produced through the couple’s ABC Studios-based Coquette Productions, which likely means ABC would get first dibs on it.

While Cox would only be involved in a behind-the-scenes capacity (she’s on a little show called Cougar Town, ‘memba?), it’s possible Arquette could serve as a producer and play one of the roles. There’s buzz two of the characters on the potential series are loosely inspired by Cox and Arquette, whose amicable split and joint child-rearing arrangement would provide fertile ground for storylines.
An ABC Studios rep declined to comment.

Desperate Housewives Exclusive: Which Former Friend is Heading to Wisteria Lane?

 


A familiar friend is making a play for newly-single Tom Scavo.

The ABC soap has inked a deal with ex-Friends actress Jessica Hecht to join the cast in a recurring role, TVLine has learned.

Hecht — fondly remembered as Susan, the lesbian spouse of Ross’ ex-wife Carol on the much-missed NBC sitcom — will play a love interest Doug Savant’s imminent divorcé.

In Housewives Season 7 finale, Tom and Lynette (Felicity Huffman) announced that they were sticking a fork in their nearly 20-year marriage.

Hecht’s more recent credits include recurring gigs on HBO’s Bored to Death and AMC’s Breaking Bad.

Housewives eighth (and final) season launches on Sept. 25.
