Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on the possibility of Arizona having a love interest in season 12 from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

http://images.designntrend.com/data/images/full/74463/arizona.png?w=780

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 4/5/16) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Do you have anything on Grey’s Anatomy‘s Arizona? I thought Shonda Rhimes said at the start of the season she would have a love interest? —Ashley
Ausiello: Now that Arizona’s “slutty again,” you’d certainly expect that we’d get to meet a love — or at least a lust — interest of hers, wouldn’t you? But if someone new is coming up for her, it doesn’t sound like their relationship is going to go very well for very long. Ellen Pompeo (Meredith) recently tweeted that Robbins’ portrayer, Jessica Capshaw, “intends to rip your hearts out in” Season 12’s 22nd episode (airing May 5). But maybe she means “rips your hearts out” in a good way? (Is there such a thing?)

Grey's Anatomy: Callie and Arizona related scoop on episode 11x05 "Bend & Break" from Entertainment Weekly's Natalie Abrams

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from Entertainment Weekly's Natalie Abrams' The Spoiler Room column, which was posted on 10/17/14.

Anything you can share about next week’s Calzona-centric episode of Grey’s Anatomy? — Di
As you may have spied in the promo, Callie and Arizona are finally going to therapy. “Callie has some resistance towards therapy,” Sara Ramirez teases. “Therapy turns out to be a great place to air grievances and concerns and to also bring up the miscommunication that has led them up to this point. They definitely get a chance to clear up some stuff. I think what Callie doesn’t expect is what the therapist ultimately advises them to do…” Gotta cut her off there, can’t ruin the whole episode, but you can watch a sneak peek here.

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat column, which was posted on 9/23/14.

Jo: Callie and Arizona need some happiness this season on Grey's. They're going to get it, right?
Sorry, have you met Shonda Rhimes?! No one is ever really and truly happy on Grey's Anatomy, and Callie and Arizona, though they may be talking about having another kid, are not out of the woods with their relationship issues yet."We left them talking about it and that's where we pick up with them talking about it," Jessica Capshaw tells us. "There's not much more than can happen to them that hasn't happened to them yet, but Shonda can think of something! So far it's been really interesting because so many of the things that I think didn't get dealt with in terms of the core part of their relationship is being dealt with in the beginning of this season. It's up and it's down and it's all around."

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on Callie and Arizona's plans to have another baby in season 11 from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 8/14/14) Matt's Inside Line column.

Do you have any scoop on when Grey’s Anatomy‘s Calzona might start ripping off those “Band-Aids” that Shonda mentioned? –Jennifer
As part of our Fall Preview Q&A with Rhimes, she said that Callie and Arizona will start searching for a surrogate “fairly soon” — unexpectedly setting in motion said ripping. “It brings up some other issues for them,” says the series creator. “The speed at which they approach this and then the process [itself] illuminates some things for them.”

I need some good Grey's Anatomy news. Is Alex going to leave Grey Sloan? — Jolene
Not if Arizona has any say in his decision. "I do not think she'll let him go very easily," Jessica Capshaw tells me. "He can't have had her go on the plane and then go off with Dr. Butthole. That's not going to go down well for her."

Grey's Anatomy: Callie and Arizona related scoop on episode 10x15 "Throwing it All Away" from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 2/25/14) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Longtime reader, first time scoop-asker. Any news about my favorite Grey’s Anatomy couple, Callie and Arizona? —LaKeeau
Ausiello: The March 13 episode is going to take stock of Arizona in a big way. Explains her portrayer, Jessica Capshaw: “It’s a window into where she’s been and where she wants to go in a clearly intentioned way as opposed to you know, things just happening all over the place between the infidelity and trying to make up for it but then squashing it and sort of sandwiching in another infidelity. [The time] is right for her to have a reckoning.” Arizona’s awakening comes during “a really bad day in her life,” adds Capshaw. “But [whereas] a really bad day in her life used to be all about, ‘I lost a leg and it’s all about the leg,’ this episode is, ironically, about: She lost a leg but she’s actually OK. You can have a normal bad day that’s not all about the leg; it’s just a bad day. She has a new normal.”

Grey's Anatomy: Arizona related scoop on episode 10x15 and Derek related scoop from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 1/14/14) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: You were on the Grey’s Anatomy set yesterday — what did you find out? —Constance
Ausiello: Well, I stepped foot on several new, potentially permanent sets — one of which will be a major plot point later this season for a longtime couple. Also, something happens in Episode 15 that required Jessica Capshaw to have a stunt double.

Question: Are we going to meet the POTUS that phoned Derek in the last episode of Grey’s Anatomy? —Megan
Ausiello: Nope. He will remain an off-camera presence for the foreseeable future (which means I can continue pretending his name is Fitz Grant).

Grey's Anatomy: Callie and Arizona related scoop on episode 10x09 "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word" from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 11/12/13) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: I’m dying for scoop on this week’s Callie-centric Grey’s Anatomy. What can you tell us about the Calzona flashbacks? —Ashley
Ausiello: I can tell you the episode isn’t flashing back too far. According to Sara Ramirez, the hour revisits a specific window of time after Arizona’s amputation but before their recent split — and offers an “important glimpse into what they were going through at that time that we may not have seen on camera last season.” (BTW, check TVLine tomorrow-ish for my full Ramirez Q&A.)

Grey's Anatomy: Shane related scoop on episode 10x06 "Map of You" and episode 10x07 "Thriller" and Arizona related scoop on episode 10x09 "Sorry Seems to be the Hardest Word" from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 10/24/13) Matt's Inside Line column.

I’m wondering about Shane’s guilt over Heather’s death in the Grey’s Anatomy season premiere. Other than that one episode, he’s been acting like it never happened. Will we see him deal with it in the future? –LaDonna
You will see Shane deal with it in the very near future – aka the next two episodes, starting tonight. As Gaius Charles previewed for us, “We’ll have to see Shane balance that sort of personal trauma with how he does his job and falls in line at the hospital. It’s going to be pretty cool, pretty interesting.”

We’re five weeks into Grey’s Anatomy and Arizona Robbins has gotten to say about three words. Any idea when we’re going to get her story? –Jennifer

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on the future of Callie and Arizona's relationship in season 10 and scoop on Sandra Oh's exit from the show from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 9/24/13) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: It’s been said that Grey’s Anatomy‘s Callie won’t be shy in showing how she really feels about Arizona cheating, and that the hospital will feel her wrath. But do you have any info on how Arizona will be handling this situation? –Ashley
Ausiello: Oh, it’s been more than “said” – it’s been shown. And as a matter of fact, TVLine’s Matt Mitovich just got off the horn with Jessica Capshaw, and she attested, “This is no small thing. This is a huge betrayal…. And the next step is you have to understand why it happened” — meaning, there’s something else missing from the Calzona relationship besides someone’s left leg. In the meantime, yes, Callie’s wrath shall be felt. As Capshaw notes with a laugh, “Every time I would walk into a scene, it would be having to play someone who had just done something horrible. So I would come out of work and be like, ‘I really am a good person! I really am!’”

Question: What can you tell me on Meredith Grey? —Sara
Ausiello: She was on The View Monday (in the form of her portrayer, Ellen Pompeo) promoting this week’s Grey’s Anatomy premiere and she basically declared this the Season of Yang. “As sad as it is that [Sandra Oh] is leaving — and I know the fans are really upset — to know Sandra Oh, this is going to her best acting season ever,” Pompeo told the ladies. “She’s going to go out with a bang. That’s a very positive spin on it, but she’s going to want to really, really bring it — as she does every year.”

Grey's Anatomy: Callie related scoop on season 10 from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat column, which was posted on 8/6/13.

JessJohnson93: I want to know…no, in fact, I need to know what's going on in #GreysAnatomy
What's going on is the new interns need to watch out for a scorned Callie. Sara Ramirez told us recently that Callie is very hurt and frustrated from being in another marriage involving infidelity, and that she might (read: she will) take her horrible mood out on those poor newbies. Ramirez also told us that Callie's main goal in the beginning of the season is to be there for her daughter and she doesn't know if she can look past Arizona's cheating ways. If you need more Grey's scoop, we'll have our full exclusive interviews with the cast going up later today!

Grey's Anatomy: Arizona, Alex, Bailey and Callie related scoop from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez's The Spoiler Room column, which was posted on 1/28/13.

JESSICA CAPSHAW ON GREY’S ANATOMY’S DYNAMIC DUOS
Our Seattle Grace gang has been off in a few different directions these days — getting preggo, wooing interns, getting rich. So when are we going to get a chance to see a few of our favorite pairs of pals back together again?

If my Twitter account is any indication, y’all are missing the fun we used to have watching Arizona and Alex pal around. What you might not know is that Jessica Capshaw misses it as much as we do! “I know, I know. They’re a good pair aren’t they? It’s so funny you say that because I was just thinking about that. We have a table read today and I was wondering if they were going to get back together,” she says. “But I mean everybody is off in all different directions because there’s a lot of us now and a lot of different stories happening and each of us have been busy with different things.”

But while Alex seems to have his hands full wooing what could be his most significant relationship in years, Capshaw reports, Arizona will soon find herself getting reacquainted with another colleague. “There’s more Arizona-Bailey stuff coming up!” she says happily. “I love their dynamic because both of them are so feisty and so unapologetic about thinking they’re right all the time that they’re fun. I love their character stuff.”

In the love department, Capshaw reports that we will continue to see Arizona on the healing path — both physically and mentally — and doing so will definitely help her relationship with Callie get back to full strength as well. “I think they’re back on the road,,” she says.

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on Constance Zimmer's role from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich's weekly column Matt's Inside Line for the week of 1/24/13.

Grey’s Anatomy | Seattle Grace won’t know what hit it when Constance Zimmer (Entourage) kicks off her recurring run tonight at 9/8c, playing physicians’ adviser Dr. Alana Cahill. With the hospital needing belt-tightening in the wake of the lawsuit whallop, Alana is “your total f–king nightmare,” Jessica Capshaw told me, “because she’s the person that comes in and delivers the bottom line, talking about how unnecessary people are, essentially. She talks about how everyone can function more efficiently, and that means people lose jobs. She’s the bad news bear, man!” Then speaking out of character, Capshaw declares herself “a big fan” of the new Grey’s addition, raving, “Constance is fantastic.”

Grey’s Anatomy: Can we all agree that Bailey is awesome? (My thoughts on episode 9x06 “Second Opinion”)

I have to say that I’ve been thoroughly enjoying season nine so far, and I’m as addicted to watching Grey’s Anatomy as I’ve always been, if not more than I was before. I absolutely loved this episode; all of the storylines in this episode were great in my personal opinion. Although, that quickly brings me to the one complaint that I have with this episode. While I liked all of the storylines in this episode, at the same time I also thought that this episode had too many storylines in it. It definitely felt jam packed with various plots and subplots and the episode just felt extremely cluttered as a whole.

That being said, I feel it would be appropriate for me to make a bullet point list of all the storylines in this episode. Here are all of the storylines that were featured in this episode in no particular order:

  • Meredith, Derek, Callie, Owen and Christina continue to meet with lawyers regarding seeking a settlement for the plane crash

  • Derek arguing with Callie about trying to repair the damage that was done to his hand in the plane crash

  • Cristina returning to work at Seattle Grace and supervising new interns

  • Alex trying to buy Meredith’s old house and arguing with her about getting minor issues with the house repaired

  • Jo (One of the interns) treating a man who works as a Santa Claus and was repeatedly vomits on her throughout the episode

  • Jo and the other interns gossiping about Alex

  • Bailey trying to convince Arizona to help her treat a patient

  • Jackson and April continuing their fling, but Jackson gets upset when April constantly compares them having sex to terrible things

  • Jackson dealing with the fact that he keeps getting emails from Richard and his mother that are meant to be sent to the two of them and not him

I apologize if I’ve omitted any storylines that were featured in the episode from my list, because there really were a lot of storylines to keep track of. It’s also impossible for me to comment on each of them, but I’m going to try and comment on the storylines that I liked the most.

Grey's Anatomy: Calzona and MerDer related scoop on season 9 from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez's The Spoiler Room column, which was posted on 8/25/12.

I have read a rumour of the possibility that Jessica Capshaw will not be returning to Grey’s Anatomy for season 9. Do you have any information regarding this rumour? Thanks! – Scully
I don’t. But the promos that keep popping up have me worried. What also worries me? What Shonda Rhimes told me during our last chat. “I can’t say anything other than [Callie and Arizona’s arc] is interesting. There’s a big story this year in the Callie camp – but that’s all I’m going to say.” Now, please leave me so I may watch the latest promo on a loop in peace. (Also, read this great chat EW’s Tanner Stransky had with Mrs. Former-Chief, Loretta Devine.)

Any Grey’s Anatomy scoop on MerDer? How will Meredith deal with Lexie’s death? Will Derek ever be able to operate again? Thanks. — Barbara
Mere will deal in a way that’s a little surprising. And as for Derek, I think it’s safe to say that he’ll always be a doctor, but says Rhimes, he’ll deal with the question of “what kind of doctor are you when you can’t do the thing you’re greatest at any more?” “We’re going to see him head back, but there is that question for him,” she says. 34 days to go, people!

Grey’s Anatomy: Season 9 Premiere Episode Title Revealed-TVLine

Callie Mark Arizona Grey's Anatomy

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, the title for the season 9 premiere of Grey's Anatomy is "Going Going Gone." Here's an excerpt from the article where Michael Ausiello shares his thoughts on the possible meaning behind the title of the season premiere.

Given the news that Eric Dane will only be returning for two episodes this fall, conventional wisdom suggests the title points to the imminent departure of McSteamy.

However, it could also be a nod to the tragic death of Lexie and/or the departure of Teddy in May’s finale — but in both cases those characters aren’t “Going Going Gone.” They’re just gone.

Which brings us back to the question at the top of the story: Is another exit looming? And if so, could it be Jessica Capshaw (Arizona) — whose S9 status series creator Shonda Rhimes has been conspicuously mum about?

Of course, it’s entirely possible the title doesn’t pertain to any of these things. Maybe Seattle Grace’s softball team opens its new season and the title refers to a super-dramatic game-winning home run hit by the Chief? (Nah.)

Link to the full article:Grey’s Anatomy Season Episode Title Revealed - TVLine

My thoughts: First off, let me start off by saying that I think that the writers have definitely picked an interesting title for the season 9 premiere of Grey's Anatomy. If I had to guess what the meaning behind the title is, I would say that it's referring to the fact that Chyler Leigh and Kim Raver left the show in the season 8 finale and that Eric Dane is going to be leaving the show after appearing in two episodes of season 9.

Next, I hope to god that Jessica Capshaw isn't also going to be leaving the show at the start of season 9 too, because I love the relationship between Callie and Arizona. I'm already really upset that Chyler Leigh, Kim Raver and Eric Dane are all leaving the show, so I would hate to see Jessica Capshaw leave the cast of Grey's Anatomy at this point in time too.

Grey's Anatomy: Star Jessica Capshaw Pregnant—Will It Affect the Show?-E! Online

E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos is reporting that Jessica Capshaw is pregnant. Kristin asked Shonda Rhimes how Capshaw's pregnancy will affect the show, and this is the response she got from Shonda:

Well, we can tell you that unlike her first real-life pregnancy, Jessica's character Arizona won't be shipped off to Africa (marking one of the saddest breakups the show has ever seen). Grey's boss Shonda Rhimes has tweeted "I won't," and adding that Grey's has included one real-life pregnancy in the past: "Bailey. Season 2."

Jessica Capshaw Defends Her Grey's Anatomy Love Life: 'Sometimes There Is Making Out, But...'-TVLine

As prurient an image as it can be to see two Grey’s Anatomy doctors-in-love melt to the kitchen floor in a lustful entwining, such an act raises the stakes for other marrieds – namely, Drs. Arizona Robbins and Callie Torres, whose so-so level of intimacy has been lamented by some fans of the same-sex pairing.

When Jessica Capshaw dropped by the TVLine office in New York City to preview an ironic twist coming in this Thursday’s episode (ABC, 9/8c), the conversation soon turned to Calzona cuddling, a topic the actress has very strong thoughts on. Capshaw also weighed in on Arizona’s new maternal leanings and teased the arrival of a new rival for her peds padwan, Alex.

TVLINE | Things have been a bit quiet for Arizona lately. But I trust you’re here to say that’s about to change?
Oh yeah. I always describe it the same way, that when you have, like, 12 regular cast members, and you only have like 42 minutes after commercials, there’s only so much storytelling you can do for each character at a time. So it becomes this funny little relay race…

TVLINE | … where actors kind of “pass the baton.”
You do. You get the baton, run your butt off, and then you pass it someone else. You’re all on the same team and you get excited about each other’s moments, but then it’s someone else’s turn.

TVLINE | So as much as actors love to act, did you appreciate the breather?
I always appreciate the breather because when your turn comes, it is so much. I look at these women who are headlining shows, like Julianna Margulies [of The Good Wife], where you are in every single scene, 24 episodes a year, and it’s a tremendous responsibility. You’re working 12- to 14- to 16-hour days. It’s intense, especially if you have families and everything else.

TVLINE | This week on Grey’s, Callie’s desire for Arizona and Mark to get closer gets filed under, “Be careful what you wish for”?
Exactly, yes. They bond over cooking, but they do grow to have a greater affinity for each other. Last year was so much about them butting heads and them trying to figure out where they belong in the whole paradigm of the relationship, and this year is much more about moving on from that. Everyone has been hoping for a little happier times, since last year was so tumultuous. They put the characters through everything there is to be gone through. [Chuckles] This year was about more harmony. But I’m on Twitter and I do read the things people say, and people get very up in arms. “What is he doing there? Why is he in that relationship?” There are also a lot of comments and questions about Callie and Arizona’s screen time as far as making out. It’s interesting because people don’t raise the same questions about the straight couples. I’m not really sure where it comes from.

TVLINE | I think their point is they get Cristina/Owen having sex on the kitchen floor, and there’s nothing comparable for Arizona and Callie.
See, I totally understand that, except that as the person playing one part of that couple, there are all different kinds of characters. There are all kinds of sexualities. There are all kinds of ways that people express their sexuality. I know couples who would do it on the kitchen floor all day long, and I know couples who wouldn’t do it on the kitchen floor even once. It’s the apples-to-oranges argument. I like to think that [Sara Ramirez and I] are creating as authentic a relationship as we possibly can, and I don’t think that we are being mired down by, “How many times did we kiss in that last episode? Did we kiss authentically enough? Was it as hot and steamy as Cristina and Owen?” That’s not something we’re aware of as we’re doing it, because we’re creating a story that is individual to our characters.

TVLINE | But there are some kissy pics from this week’s episode, so Calzona fans do have that to look forward to.
Yes! Yes! [Laughs] I know…. But that’s the thing, you’re always examining every facet of a relationship, and sometimes there is making out and sometimes there is not. I…. I don’t know.

TVLINE | There was talk last episode about Arizona wanting her name on some “paper,” as a parent to Sofia. Will there be elaboration on that?
No, I don’t think that’s going to be picked up again. That was a sort of very nice way to have it be clear that Arizona feels like a parent in this relationship. Of course with the first inkling of any baby talk, Arizona was like, “I’m not having babies. I don’t want babies. I spend my day with babies.” The ["paper"] story point was two-fold, explaining how hard it really was for her to watch [Derek and Meredith] not be able to be with Zola, but it was also meant to illuminate how much Arizona cares about Sofia, and how she sees herself as someone who needs to be on paper.

TVLINE | Do you think that’s a truer note to play, versus her being the begrudging third or fourth wheel?
Yeah, I think that gets old.

TVLINE | And it’s not flattering for the character.
It doesn’t even come down to that because I’m totally fine playing unflattering. It’s just uninteresting. It doesn’t show any evolution. Amidst all that they went through last year, if you look at it technically [Arizona] saved the baby, so there’s an investment in Sofia no matter what. I also don’t think it’s in line with her personality to be a baby-hater. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Will there be more scenes between Arizona and Zola?
I don’t know. There haven’t been, so far.

TVLINE | What are your favorite relationships to play, beyond Arizona/Callie?
I love working with Patrick [Dempsey], and he and I have gotten to work together a little more this year. He entertains me so much, I think he’s hysterical.

TVLINE | It seems like somewhere inside him is still that geeky kid from Can’t Buy Me Love.
Oh yeah. He’s beyond. He’s such a wonderful person. And I love, love, love, love Justin [Chambers, who plays Alex]. He’s such a wonderful man and father of five, such a good guy and incredibly talented. No one ever likes when you point this out, but out of everyone I think he gets the least credit for the kind of work he’s doing. If you look at him in any frame of the show, he is so consistent and so right on. I also love working with Chandra Wilson, who sort of ushered me into the show. She’s someone you learn something from every single day, she’s such a sage.

TVLINE | And is there anybody you haven’t gotten to work with much that you’d like to?
Jesse Williams. He and I haven’t worked together very much, and we get along really well. I would love to see some sort of banter between Avery and Arizona, I think it’d be really fun.

TVLINE | Tell me about Polly, the peds fellow arriving in Episode 8….
Well, it’s always been very clear that Arizona’s favorite has been Karev. That’s always been kind of mysterious and yet also deserved, because he’s done all these great things and yet he such an ass some of the time. But she loves him, and at the beginning of the season you saw her tell him, “You better light a fire under your butt, because if you want to become a fellow, you need to start publishing and doing stuff.” We then find him not having done anything and her meeting this sterling peds fellow (played by True Blood alum Vedette Lim) who’s been published and is the la-dee-dah of everything. When she comes to visit, Arizona gives her a tour and shows her around. And then there’s a surprise at the end.

TVLINE | All told, how has the character of Arizona shaped up versus your expectations first joining this medical drama?
Well, I was such a huge fan of the show before I ever got there, and I had auditioned for it two times. I had almost gotten it, and then not gotten it… and then almost gotten it, and then not gotten it… and then they called and said, “We have this character and it’s a three-episode arc.” I didn’t dare to dream that I could stay. And at the time there was a lot of talk about Katie Heigl and T.R. Knight asking to leave, so after my second episode, because I was with Karev all the time, I thought, “Maybe I’m coming in for him or something?” And then there was the afternoon where [the producers asked], “So… how are you kissing a girl?” I was like, “Huh!? What?! Where did that come from?” And there you had the creation of this Arizona character. Everything was turned on its side, and you had this character who at first glance was X, Y or Z to you, but there was so much more beneath it all. She was this very open, authoritative and sweet but strong, tough presence. It has been a really great gift to play that type of character.
