Grey's Anatomy: Alex related scoop on episode 11x04 "Only Mama Knows" from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 10/14/14) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Can you give us any scoop on Grey’s Anatomy? —Annie
Ausiello: As if losing the board seat to Bailey wasn’t bad enough, in Thursday’s episode, “Only Mama Knows,” Alex finds out just how badly betrayed he was by two colleagues he thought had his back. (And maybe even worse, why!)

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on the future of Alex and Jo's relationship and Maggie related scoop on season 11 from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 9/23/14) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Jo and Alex are so happy right now, but that never seems to last long on Grey’s Anatomy! Anything coming up for them? —Sarah
Ausiello: As we all surmised, Meredith’s tendency to lean on the last fellow “original,” Alex, in the wake of her “person” Cristina’s exit, will raise Jo’s pretty little eyebrows. As Camilla Luddington explained to Matt Mitovich, “Jo’s never actually witnessed the depth of that relationship before, how with that gang there really were no boundaries, so she sees that and is taken aback. She’s jealous and she doesn’t know what to do.” In fact as the season unfolds, on a scale of 1 to 10, Luddington puts the state of the JoLex union at — eep! — just “a 5 or a 6.”

Question: Will Meredith know Maggie is her sister by the end of the Grey’s Anatomy season premiere? —Nikki
Ausiello: Sounds like the answer to that is nope. “The revelation of who Maggie is to Meredith won’t happen until she feels comfortable in the hospital,” reveals Kelly McCreary (AKA Maggie). “She came for the job. The family thing is sort of a side bar. She’s got her work cut out for her at [Grey Sloan]. So it’ll take as long as it takes for her to settle in.”

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on the future of Alex's career in season 11 from TVGuide's Natalie Abrams

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from TVGuide's Natalie Abrams' Mega Buzz column, which was posted on 7/29/14.

I need some Alex scoop for Grey's Anatomy— Rhonda
Although Shonda Rhimes said Alex won't back down from becoming a board member, he will struggle with the decision to edge Bailey out. In fact, he'll have to do some major soul-searching. "His responsibilities and who he's becoming because Cristina has left him these shares and a seat on a board — does he want that?" she says. "Is that what he's looking for? Did he want the money grab that Dr. Butthole provided him or does he want to be the guy who has a seat on the board? That is a big deal for him to figure out what he wants."

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on the future of Alex's career and scoop on the season 11 premiere from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 7/22/14) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Do you have any scoop on Grey’s Anatomy, especially on Jackson and April or Jo and Alex? —Carly
Ausiello: I choose Couple No. 2, though as far as Shonda Rhimes is concerned, their romantic status is not Alex’s No. 1 priority as the new season opens, picking up barely a day later. “Alex and Joe are in an interesting place — though I don’t know if I would talk about them in terms of their relationship just yet, just because thats not really the focus at the moment,” the Grey’s creator shares. “Cristina has left him these shares and the seat on the board, and what that means for him is complex. Does he want that? Is that what he’s looking for? Did he want the money grab that [private practice] provided him, or does he want to be the guy who has a seat on the board? It’s a big deal for him to figure out what he wants.” Bonus Grey’s Scoop: Kevin McKidd is directing the season premiere!

I need some good Grey's Anatomy news. Is Alex going to leave Grey Sloan? — Jolene
Not if Arizona has any say in his decision. "I do not think she'll let him go very easily," Jessica Capshaw tells me. "He can't have had her go on the plane and then go off with Dr. Butthole. That's not going to go down well for her."

There's a chance that another doctor could be leaving Grey Sloan Memorial! Remember that peds surgeon I told you about? His arrival forces Alex to re-evaluate his future. "Alex thinks, 'Maybe I need to possibly think about joining a private practice," Justin Chambers tells me. "He's starting to see that he could profit a little more than he has."

Are Alex and Jo really breaking up on Grey's Anatomy? — Liana
It sure looks like it, and Alex is not happy about it, as the powers that be will soon discover. "The hypocrisy involved with these people enforcing rules on us and they're all shagging each other when you turn your back, it's not right," Justin Chambers tells me. "He feels like it's unjust."

Jo is one busy doc when the ABC hit returns tomorrow night. "When the show returns it picks up right where episode 12 left off so Alex and Jo find out that obviously his dad is in extremely bad shape and she is trying to be a supportive girlfriend ad there for him and she's also trying to be a supportive friend to Stephanie who has been publicly humiliated," Camilla Luddington previews. Oh, and she's dealing with Alex's surprise proposal, which leads to an explosive fight we shared exclusively with you. But will Alex and Jo be able to weather the storm? "It causes for some drama that could definitely erupt their relationship," Luddington teases of the proposal fiasco. Uh oh!

He's not dead... yet. We'll actually meet his estranged wife (played by Victorious alum Susan Chuang), who is lured to Grey Sloan Memorial under false pretenses in the midseason return. Suffice it to say, she's about as happy with Jimmy as Alex has been.

Grey's Anatomy: Jo and Stephanie related scoop and scoop on Alex and Jo's relationship from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 1/21/14) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Anything you have on Grey’s Anatomy to get me through this hiatus would be very much appreciated! —Mary Kate

Ausiello: Jo is having a baby! Wait, that’s not right. Jo is adopting a baby! Nope, that’s not right either. Jo
discovers a baby in the trash and develops an attachment to it! BINGO!
“Stephanie and Jo are out in the back of the hospital by the dumpsters,
which is the new cool intern hangout, and Stephanie accidentally kicks a
box, and there’s a baby in it,” explains Camilla Luddington of the
plot, which will unfold in a spring episode. “And so we find this
dumpster baby, which, of course, is very difficult for Jo because she
has abandonment issues. And she is not on the case, and she really
wants to be working on it.” I was kidding about the adoption thing, but
would she ever consider it? “Do you think Jo and Alex are ready for
kids?” the actress shoots back with a laugh. “They’re still trying to
figure themselves out.” Fair enough.

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on James Remar's future on the show from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 11/14/13) Matt's Inside Line column.

When will Alex’s father (James Remar) return to Grey’s Anatomy? –Joanna
Camilla Luddington assured me that Remar “will be back,” though at the time we spoke (Oct. 30), the encore had yet to happen. What she does know is that when Alex’s estranged dad re-resurfaces, “it will not be an easy, good thing. It will be a stressful situation once again, because there’s so much history and hurt there.”

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on Jo and Alex's relationship and Bailey related scoop from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat column, which was posted on 10/11/13.

Ashlee: Grey's spoilers, whatever you got.
Justin Chambers told us that fans can expect some really great interaction between him and Jo the intern. "I'm enjoying Camilla Luddington. She's a great actress. We have some fun stuff coming up. I think people are gonna be really excited about what we're doing," he tells us. "These new interns that are coming in have added such great flavor." Meanwhile, Chandra Wilson promises that Bailey will be working on getting her mojo back. "She's trying to. You know, because as a surgeon, you really do have to go by your gut a lot of times," she says. "Because it's not something you can see, it's not showing up on a scan, you know, the visual field isn't what it needs to be, but your gut is telling you something else. And you know, it was about time for Bailey to depend on her gut."

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on the future of Jackson and April's relationship and scoop on the future of Alex and Jo's relationship in season 10 from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 8/22/13) Matt's Inside Line column.

Is there any news on the future of Grey’s Anatomy’s Jackson Avery and April Kepner? –Emani
Shonda Rhimes echoes that which Sarah Drew shared with us — Jackson wasn’t exactly bowled over by April’s mid-superstorm declaration of love. “He’s been very patient, and she’s the one who sort of walked away from him. And when the finale happened, he was feeling kind of ‘done,’ so her declaration is definitely going to have interesting repercussions,” Rhimes allows. “She’s engaged to somebody else, and he’s with somebody else, and it’s not as if either of them is behaving, I would say, in the most mature manner. They’ve definitely got challenging times ahead.”

Got any scoop on Alex and Jo from Grey’s Anatomy? Thanks in advance! – Burkey
As one could assume, “They are going to be exploring their relationship this season,” (the ridiculously pretty) Camilla Luddington told me at TCA. “I don’t trust Grey’s to make it all go perfectly, but I do know they are crazy about each other and in love.” And since the two-hour season opener picks up continuously, with more superstorm insanity, don’t expect any full-on on-call room nookie anytime soon. “We got smooches [in the finale], that’s all,” Luddington notes with a smile. “So we’ll see where that leads!”

Grey’s Anatomy: Can we all agree that Bailey is awesome? (My thoughts on episode 9x06 “Second Opinion”)

I have to say that I’ve been thoroughly enjoying season nine so far, and I’m as addicted to watching Grey’s Anatomy as I’ve always been, if not more than I was before. I absolutely loved this episode; all of the storylines in this episode were great in my personal opinion. Although, that quickly brings me to the one complaint that I have with this episode. While I liked all of the storylines in this episode, at the same time I also thought that this episode had too many storylines in it. It definitely felt jam packed with various plots and subplots and the episode just felt extremely cluttered as a whole.

That being said, I feel it would be appropriate for me to make a bullet point list of all the storylines in this episode. Here are all of the storylines that were featured in this episode in no particular order:

  • Meredith, Derek, Callie, Owen and Christina continue to meet with lawyers regarding seeking a settlement for the plane crash

  • Derek arguing with Callie about trying to repair the damage that was done to his hand in the plane crash

  • Cristina returning to work at Seattle Grace and supervising new interns

  • Alex trying to buy Meredith’s old house and arguing with her about getting minor issues with the house repaired

  • Jo (One of the interns) treating a man who works as a Santa Claus and was repeatedly vomits on her throughout the episode

  • Jo and the other interns gossiping about Alex

  • Bailey trying to convince Arizona to help her treat a patient

  • Jackson and April continuing their fling, but Jackson gets upset when April constantly compares them having sex to terrible things

  • Jackson dealing with the fact that he keeps getting emails from Richard and his mother that are meant to be sent to the two of them and not him

I apologize if I’ve omitted any storylines that were featured in the episode from my list, because there really were a lot of storylines to keep track of. It’s also impossible for me to comment on each of them, but I’m going to try and comment on the storylines that I liked the most.

Grey's Anatomy: Stars Sign New Two-Year Deals-TVLine

According to TVLine's Megan Masters, Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, James Pickens, Jr. and Chandra Wilson have all signed new two-year contracts with the show. Here's a quote from Shonda Rhimes that was included in the article, which gives some scoop on how the cast's previously uncertain futures with the show affected her plans for the season:

Showrunner Shonda Rhimes told TVLine in January that she was resolved to designing a fitting finale to Grey’s current eighth season, despite not knowing which members of the original cast would and would not return next fall.

“[It] was the most complex puzzle I’ve had to put together — ever,” she shared. ”We have all these moveable pieces of who’s coming back and who’s not, and finally I just decided to focus on what was going to be best creatively [and] make it work regardless of what is happening [off screen].”

ABC has yet to formally order a ninth season of Grey’s; the network reveals its 2012-13 TV schedule next Tuesday.

My thoughts: I'm beyond thrilled that Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers, James Pickens, Jr. and Chandra Wilson have all signed new contracts with the show since I love all of their characters. However, I have to admit that since I've never really liked the character Christina, a big part of me was hoping that Sandra Oh wasn't going to sign a new contract and that she would be leaving the show. Don't get me wrong, I like Sandra Oh as an actress in the other things that I've seen her in, it's just that I've never really liked the character Christina.

Grey's Anatomy: An update on the cast's contract negotiations from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 2/28/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Any word on the status of contract talks between Grey’s Anatomy and Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, etc.? I’m starting to get nervous. —Carrie
Ausiello: No, but remember how Shonda Rhimes hinted to me last month that the season ends in a way that could accommodate any number of possible cast departures? Well, get this: I hear a late April episode will follow Alex, Meredith, Jackson, April and Cristina as they interview for fellowship positions at other hospitals around the country. Said hospitals are apparently wooing the quintet in anticipation of them passing their boards — and they’re wisely entertaining all of their options.

Grey's Anatomy Boss' Season Finale Conundrum: 'I Don't Know What I'm Going to Do' - TVLine

As anyone well versed in the teachings of Shonda Rhimes knows, the Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice boss maps out each season of her shows in reverse: First she establishes the finale’s endgame and then works backwards to the premiere.

Unfortunately, with the contracts of several core Grey’s castmembers (Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, included) set to expire in May, the Empress of Shondaland is breaking with tradition for the first time.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do at the end of the season yet,” Rhimes confesses to TVLine. “Until we know [who's coming back], we just don’t know [how the season will conclude]. So we’re taking it in a different way.”

That means treating Season 8 almost like it’s two separate seasons. “We’re looking at it in segments,” she explains. “We’re planning the first half of the season [now] and then I’ll plan the second half of the season when I know more stuff.”

Regardless of what happens, Rhimes is certain Seattle Grace’s doors will remain open for a ninth season. The exec is having a tougher time predicting which longtime physicians will once again be walking its halls though. “I have no idea,” she hedges. “That’s not my job.”

This article was written by Michael Ausiello.
