Grey's Anatomy: Amelia and Derek related scoop on the season 11 mid-season finale (Episode 11x08 "Risk") from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 11/17/14) Matt's Inside Line column.

Anything on Grey’s Anatomy’s final two fall episodes? —Jennifer
Amelia doesn’t exactly follow through on her threat to move out of Casa de Mer/Der in the wake of her brother’s near-betrayal. As Caterina Scorsone teased to Michael Ausiello, “She’s still lingering in the house a little bit” in this Thursday’s episode. “She knows he’s sorry, and she knows that he’s really struggling. One of the things Amelia’s demons have given her is a deep well of compassion.” Having said that, the fact that Derek waffled on whether to go to bat for his kid sis “fundamentally changes the way Amelia sees him, and the way she sees the dynamic of their relationship. She can forgive but she won’t forget.”

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on the future of Meredith and Derek's marriage in season 11 from TVGuide's Natalie Abrams

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from TVGuide's Natalie Abrams' Mega Buzz column, which was posted on 7/22/14.

Please give me some Mer-Der scoop for Grey's Anatomy! — Helga
In case you haven't heard, it's the season of Meredith! Unfortunately, that's not necessarily a good thing, since it means more drama ahead for she and Derek. "He thinks his career is more important than hers," executive producer Shonda Rhimes tells me. "She has kids and a husband and he has a big career and she has ambition. Suddenly, she's found herself in the backseat." Don't worry, I hear it won't be long before she stands up for herself!

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on the future of Meredith and Derek's marriage in season 11 from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

ELLEN POMPEO, PATRICK DEMPSEY

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 6/3/14) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Any Grey’s Anatomy scoop on Mer-Der for Season 11? Will they break up? Heard a rumor that Shonda Rhimes is gonna kill Mer and put Derek and Torres together. —Patricia
Ausiello: Sources confirm to me exclusively, Patricia, that you’ve been taking hits from Janelle’s bong. As we reported back in January, Ellen Pompeo inked a new two-year contract with the show, which means Mer isn’t going anywhere anytime soon. A Mer-Der break-up also seems unlikely, but there has been unconfirmed buzz that the duo are about to face one of their more challenging seasons in recent memory, which makes the timing of Cristina’s exit horrible for Mer.

Derek and Meredith shippers will get a kick out of episode 13, where the episode will involve some trips down memory lane. We're not saying there will be more post-its, but there will be sweet reminders of what MerDer has been though together.

Grey's Anatomy: Meredith related scoop on the season 10 premiere and casting related scoop on season 10 from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 7/30/13) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Do you have any Grey’s Anatomy spoilers about Derek and Meredith? —Toni
Ausiello: The two-hour Season 10 premiere will delve into the “aftermath” of Mer’s turbulent delivery, teases Grey’s consulting producer (and Scandal Emmy nominee) Dan Bucatinsky. “She had a rough birth. We’re going to see them in the hospital together and juggling their roles in a major way.” The super-sized Sept. 26 kickoff is alternately “dramatic, emotional and exciting,” the actor-writer-producer adds. “Also, we’re going to watch these new interns become part of the fabric of the hospital. That’s going to be part of what’s fun and fresh about this season. We’re going to get to know them better.”

Question: Please tell me if you have any Grey’s Anatomy news on Christina/Owen. They seriously need to be over and done with. It’s time for them to move on for good. —Abdul
Ausiello: How do you really feel Paula (that is your first name, right?). Sadly, I have no news for you on “Crowen,” unless the new recurring character the show is adding figures into their fractured relationship somehow. The newbie, Bill, is a likable jazz musician in his 50s who has been “somewhat ravaged by drug abuse.” He’s slated to appear in roughly five episodes of Season 10.

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on the birth of Meredith and Derek's baby and more on the season 9 finale (Episode 9x24 "Perfect Storm") from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich's weekly column Matt's Inside Line for the week of 5/9/13.

Grey’s Anatomy | As we enter this final stretch — the Season 9 finale airs next Thursday — here are a few teasers and/or merely interesting anecdotes. For one, you know how Shonda Rhimes famously tweeted that she scrapped her original finale plan for one that gives us a “superstorm”? Well, she says that a bit of bad weather was always coming Seattle’s way, “But it definitely wasn’t going to play out the way that it does now.” Then there was her tweet about having to whisper something to a director during the filming of a finale scene. Rhimes tells us that the top-secret exchange involved a bit of dialogue that was kept out of the script pages, yet was coming up in the scene. (“I just walked down to the set, told the director what we were going to do, and then he did it.”) On a related note — or not — I have this vittle for TVLine reader Jessica, who’s wildly curious about what the finale has in store for Meredith, Derek and the birth of their baby. “It is probably the exact opposite of any situation that anybody would want to go into labor in,” Rhimes says, “but it’s also works exactly how we want it to.” The show boss describes the storyline as “fairly intense,” adding that Ellen Pompeo “did beautiful work.”

Grey's Anatomy: Derek related scoop on episode 9x05 "Beautiful Doom" and more from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 10/31/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Will Derek appear in next week’s Mer/Cristina-centric episode of Grey’s Anatomy at all? I’m hoping for at least one Meredith-and-Derek scene, especially since this is the ep where Mer finally breaks down about Lexie. —Tia
Ausiello: I can confirm that Patrick Dempsey will make an appearance in “Beautiful Doom,” but when and in what context I’m not saying (hint: because I don’t know myself).

Question: Loved seeing Ethan Embry on Grey’s Anatomy as Arizona’s prosthetist. Will he be back? —Nina
Ausiello: I was under the impression the role was recurring, but I was wrong. As of now he’s not slated to return. The good news: In a few months you can catch him on Once Upon a Time!

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on Meredith and Derek's relationship in season 9 and more from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 9/25/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Grey’s Anatomy fan here looking for something, anything, on Meredith and Derek, please! —Jessica
Ausiello: For the most part, they’ll be shielded from all the sturm und drang unfolding around them at Seattle Grace when the season picks up this Thursday. “There are heavier storylines in other places so [the writers] have to create a delicate balance between the heavy storylines and the light storylines,” explained Mer’s portrayer, Ellen Pompeo, during my visit to the Grey’s set last week. “And I think Derek and Meredith are just dealing a little bit with his hand and whether he can do surgery or not, and what does that look like? But there’s not too much drama surrounding them because, the truth is, they’re happy to be alive and be parents for their daughter. So we can play the lightness and leave the heavy stuff to other people.” Patrick Dempsey, meanwhile, seemed a little surprised when I informed him that Shonda Rhimes was planning to put Derek and Mer’s sex life under a microscope this season. “I need to go to the gym more,” he deadpanned, before adding, “I hope so. They’ve been fighting enough over the last eight years. I don’t know how they stayed together… We’ll see how much sex they’re having. They should have it at least once a day. But I think the baby gets in the way.”

Question: Did Patrick Dempsey give you some good scoop when you were on the Grey’s set? —Tia
Ausiello: He explained to me why he decided to sign on for two more years of Grey’s last spring, “It was about job security,” he said, candidly. “You look at what’s going on in the world, how difficult it is to get a job. You see other actors who have been on other shows who aren’t working now. I’m like, ‘You know what? Why not?’ It’s here. It’s still going. Everybody’s working really well together. The scheduling is working out this year. And it’s still amazingly popular. I had a long time where I wasn’t working. I was struggling, so why not? And the money’s good, so I would be stupid to say no.”

Grey's Anatomy: Stars Sign New Two-Year Deals-TVLine

According to TVLine's Megan Masters, Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, James Pickens, Jr. and Chandra Wilson have all signed new two-year contracts with the show. Here's a quote from Shonda Rhimes that was included in the article, which gives some scoop on how the cast's previously uncertain futures with the show affected her plans for the season:

Showrunner Shonda Rhimes told TVLine in January that she was resolved to designing a fitting finale to Grey’s current eighth season, despite not knowing which members of the original cast would and would not return next fall.

“[It] was the most complex puzzle I’ve had to put together — ever,” she shared. ”We have all these moveable pieces of who’s coming back and who’s not, and finally I just decided to focus on what was going to be best creatively [and] make it work regardless of what is happening [off screen].”

ABC has yet to formally order a ninth season of Grey’s; the network reveals its 2012-13 TV schedule next Tuesday.

My thoughts: I'm beyond thrilled that Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Justin Chambers, James Pickens, Jr. and Chandra Wilson have all signed new contracts with the show since I love all of their characters. However, I have to admit that since I've never really liked the character Christina, a big part of me was hoping that Sandra Oh wasn't going to sign a new contract and that she would be leaving the show. Don't get me wrong, I like Sandra Oh as an actress in the other things that I've seen her in, it's just that I've never really liked the character Christina.

Grey's Anatomy: An update on the cast's contract negotiations from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 2/28/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Any word on the status of contract talks between Grey’s Anatomy and Ellen Pompeo, Patrick Dempsey, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, etc.? I’m starting to get nervous. —Carrie
Ausiello: No, but remember how Shonda Rhimes hinted to me last month that the season ends in a way that could accommodate any number of possible cast departures? Well, get this: I hear a late April episode will follow Alex, Meredith, Jackson, April and Cristina as they interview for fellowship positions at other hospitals around the country. Said hospitals are apparently wooing the quintet in anticipation of them passing their boards — and they’re wisely entertaining all of their options.

Grey's Anatomy Redux: Summer Glau Delivers Drama, but Is Owen Really Cheating on Cristina?-E! Online

Here's a recap of tonight's episode, episode 8x16 "If Only You Were Lonely" by E! Online's Christina Dowling. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some scoop on what's coming up on Grey's Anatomy:

WHAT LIES AHEAD

And Tigers and Bears. Oh My! Patrick Dempsey tweeted a picture of an upcoming guest star of the feline variety. What could bring lions to Seattle Grace? We have 20 bucks on zoo attack or circus animals on the rampage.

Bad to Worse: So Owen may or may not be cheating, but more importantly, his relationship with Cristina is so severely fractured, even Ellen Pompeo "could very easily see him walking away." We'd guess that only a near-death catastrophe that puts everything into perspective could get these two back on track.

Grey's Anatomy: Scoop on episode 8x18 from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Grey's Anatomy from this week's (Posted on 2/14/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Any scoop on the photo Patrick Dempsey snapped of a lion on the Grey’s Anatomy set earlier today? —Scott
Ausiello: It’s for Katherine Heigl’s big comeback episode. A lion gets hit by a car and Izzie and her magic animal shock paddles are called back into service to save its life. I kid, I kid. Not sure what the story is behind Dempsey’s four-legged co-star, except to say that the episode in question (No. 818) is called “The Lion Sleeps Tonight. ”

Grey's Anatomy Boss' Season Finale Conundrum: 'I Don't Know What I'm Going to Do' - TVLine

As anyone well versed in the teachings of Shonda Rhimes knows, the Grey’s Anatomy/Private Practice boss maps out each season of her shows in reverse: First she establishes the finale’s endgame and then works backwards to the premiere.

Unfortunately, with the contracts of several core Grey’s castmembers (Patrick Dempsey, Ellen Pompeo, Sandra Oh, Justin Chambers, included) set to expire in May, the Empress of Shondaland is breaking with tradition for the first time.

“I don’t know what I’m going to do at the end of the season yet,” Rhimes confesses to TVLine. “Until we know [who's coming back], we just don’t know [how the season will conclude]. So we’re taking it in a different way.”

That means treating Season 8 almost like it’s two separate seasons. “We’re looking at it in segments,” she explains. “We’re planning the first half of the season [now] and then I’ll plan the second half of the season when I know more stuff.”

Regardless of what happens, Rhimes is certain Seattle Grace’s doors will remain open for a ninth season. The exec is having a tougher time predicting which longtime physicians will once again be walking its halls though. “I have no idea,” she hedges. “That’s not my job.”
