Just because we’re likely not going to see certain people (very much or at all) next season does not mean we won’t hear about them. It’s “absolutely” the plan to find out what’s going on with them, according to EP Edward Kitsis. EP Adam Horowitz adds: “Yeah, we fully intend on that.” So at least there’s that.

You mean other than Elsa having been locked up in Rumple's vault all those years? It sure sounds like it! "Maybe there is an unlikely friendship that Charming had in his past that maybe literally changed the entire path of his life," Josh Dallas told me at Comic-Con when I asked the exact same question. Safe  money is on him being friends with Anna over Elsa, though.

Funny, Ginnifer Goodwin told me that she and Josh Dallas have batted around that same theory – though at the time we chatted, they were warming up to the Emma-as-”Dorothy” figure speculation. But through the filming of Episode 18, at least, there have been no hints either way.

Once Upon a Time: Prince Charming related scoop from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Once Upon a Time from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich's weekly column Matt's Inside Line for the week of 11/30/12.

Once Upon a Time | The bad news for fans of Prince Charming is that, of course, he is now trapped in a sleeping spell, since Snow wasn’t able to physically connect with him in the netherworld for a reviving smooch. But as he lingers in that limbo, I have this good news to share: New flashbacks to The Fairytale Land That Was are on the horizon, filling some blanks in the prince’s backstory. “There’s a lot more to explore,” Josh Dallas assured me during my visit to Vancouver, where Once films. For example, “Charming had a twin that was never fully realized – we only had a glimpse of him — so maybe there’ll be a chance to explore more of who that brother was.” Of course, it was actually said sibling who was named James, and to date we have yet to learn Charming’s own name. So…? “We will find out. We will find out,” Dallas promises. And in the way of hints, he says, “It’s surprising… and it’s obvious.” (Once‘s midseason finale airs Sunday.)

Once Upon a Time Duo Weigh In On (and Share Secrets From!) the Finale’s Big Reunion-TVLine

Here's an article by TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich which gives some scoop on filming the ending of the season one finale directly from Ginnifer Goodwin and Josh Dallas. Here's an excerpt from the article:



“Oh my gosh, it was incredibly intimidating,” Goodwin tells TVLine of shooting the momentous moment when Mary Margaret and David realize their true identities, thanks to the dark curse being (partially) lifted by Emma. “And what made me very nervous about that scene was we had a huge crowd of people watching us film [in the town of Steveston, BC], so I was very concerned that we were giving something away by yelling each others’ names across the street.”

As such, Goodwin suggested that she and Dallas instead use nonsense words that to the camera would look like they’re saying “Snow” and “Charming,” then drop in the real names in post-production. But for one, the likes of “Marming” (an example she gave) weren’t quite cutting it. And two, the director and crew, she says, “ended up feeling that the crowds of people couldn’t actually hear us, given all of the elements.”

Dallas, meanwhile, says that he wasn’t nervous about the scene but instead was caught up in the “joyous” significance of it.

“That was the biggest moment of all [Season 1], particularly for David and Mary Margaret,” he says, “because it’s them all of a sudden realizing who they actually are. All of these memories come flooding back of who they are in fairytale land and their history there – but combined with the new history that they have in Storybrooke. When all of that came together, it hit them like a ton of bricks.”

So to answer one question coming out of the finale, yes, Mary Margaret and David now know who they really are but also retain memories of their brief yet significantly angsty time together there in Maine. Which is good, because, well, someone has to teach the school kids, right? And you can’t leave Granny confounded at the diner by an electric mixer.

Once Upon a Time Season 1 Finale Preview--Josh Dallas-TVLine

Here's an interview that TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich did with Josh Dallas, which gives a preview of the season 1 finale, episode 1x22 "A Land Without Magic". In the interview Dallas talks about what his thoughts on the show were before it started, David's relationships with Mary Margaret and Katheryn, and he also gives some scoop on the season 1 finale. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some scoop on the season finale:



TVLINE | Charming is currently still imprisoned and trying to get to Snow White. When we next see him, will it be at her coffin-side?
It is possible…. There’s going to be a lot of pieces we hinted at and left unanswered in the pilot that will be answered in the finale, for sure.

TVLINE | So you’re saying that whether people realize it or not, there are blanks to be filled between where we left off on Sunday and the opening scene of the pilot?
Oh, absolutely. Absolutely. A lot of things are filled in, and there will be a lot of surprises coming at you. I mean, the finale is crazy-bananas. It’s like a train that keeps on going and won’t stop. And like the last episode, which was really centered around Snow’s side of the story, this one is very much Charming’s side of the story.

TVLINE | My concern, and I brought up with your bosses, is that once he arrives at Snow’s coffin we’ve come full circle. I don’t know why we would ever revisit Snow and Charming in Season 2.
That’s interesting. But we still have magic afoot, and magic can do a lot of things. And Rumplestiltskin still has an agenda, and we’re not really quite sure what it is or what it might turn into. And the Evil Queen will still have her agenda…. Anything can happen. So I think in Season 2, not only with Snow and Charming but all the characters we set up, there is still so much more that we can discover, even in flashbacks. We still don’t even know Charming’s real name!

TVLINE | Meanwhile in Storybrooke, is David with Mary Margaret holding vigil at Henry’s bedside?
No, he might not become aware of that. Kathryn’s back, and I think they’ve kind of made their peace about what their relationship was, because obviously that was something planted by Regina. It wasn’t real. So at the moment that we see David in the finale, he’s got a decision to make. David has had tough time with this curse.

TVLINE | Oh, it’s totally kicked his ass.
It’s totally kicked his ass! In my opinion, he’s been affected more than anybody else. I mean, he gives her the wrong [Valentine's] card…. He’s a real tool, sometimes, and I feel sorry for him. But I love the fact that I as an actor get to play the two different emotional speeds of the two guys. They’re the same character, but they have different experiences that make them inherently different people. David has all that Charming stuff inside of him trying to get out, and by the finale, hopefully, fingers crossed, Charming is going to come out.

TVLINE | Is it safe to say that even if he does once and for all smooth things over with Kathryn, that by the end of the finale yet another obstacle will be thrown in his and Mary Margaret’s way?
There are obstacles thrown in everyone’s way by the end of the finale.

Get ready to see a different side of Snow White.

On this Sunday’s Once Upon a Time (ABC, 8/7c), the future princess is out to kill the Evil Queen, and she’s determined to get the job done to an unhealthy degree. But how did the mild-mannered, sweet heroine become a potential murderess?


Not surprisingly the mysterious Rumpelstiltskin is partly to blame. “I didn’t think about the repercussions of taking a potion that would erase the memory of love,” says Ginnifer Goodwin, referring to the concoction Rumple gave Snow to make her forget Prince Charming. “That it would effect you in very logical ways in all aspects of life.”

Turns out that mix Snow drank has made her a little unhinged. “She definitely walks a different road [in this episode],” continues Goodwin.

With a damaged Snow out on a potentially regretful mission, Charming takes it upon himself to save her from herself and to keep her from ending the Queen’s life. But will he also manage to help his beloved reclaim her memories?

“That’s part of the episode – whether or not that will be addressed,” says Goodwin. Josh Dallas is a bit more reassuring about his alter ego’s efforts, telling TVLine, “He’s doing the best he can to get her to remember.”

“It’s an epic episode with lots of action, and the storytelling is super exciting,” he adds.
