New Girl: Nick, whatever you do, don’t tell Jess’ dad that you slept with Jess! (My thoughts on episode 2x24 “Winston’s Birthday (Part 1)”)

Given the way the previous episode ended with Jess and Nick sleeping together, I definitely had big expectations for this episode, and both the writers and the cast definitely exceeded my expectations. Elizabeth Meriwether had previously said that the last three episodes of the season would cover the events of one day leading up to Cece’s wedding in the season two finale (New Girl: Jess, Nick and Cece related scoop), and I have to say that I really like that the writers did that so the viewers can see everything that led up to Jess and Nick sleeping together, as well as the immediate aftermath of them sleeping together for the first time. I also think that also helps the other storylines that are going on as well, namely Cece’s upcoming wedding to Shivrang.

After working several different odd jobs and teaching a creative writing class to adults throughout the season, Jess was finally offered a job teaching kids. They apparently wanted her to get to the school right away so she could talk to the principal of the school and sub for a class, which was disaster, mostly because the kids were completely out of control.

That being said, the whole scenario of the principal wanting Jess to come to the school immediately because they wanted to talk to her, and they also needed a sub felt a bit ridiculous to me. They didn’t tell her anything about the class that she would be subbing for, such as what the kids were studying or show her the teacher’s lesson plans, they basically took her to the classroom and left her to fend for herself, which didn’t seem to go very well. Jess tried to tell them that she was supposed to spend the day helping a friend get ready for their wedding, but they basically ignored what she was saying and strong-armed her into subbing for a class. As weird as the whole scenario with Jess being offered the job and the school completely putting her on the spot to start teaching immediately, it was definitely great to see Jess teaching kids again.

On top of being put on the spot by the school’s staff, Jess was also having to deal with the fact that her dad, Bob, came to town rather unexpectedly for Cece’s wedding, while also trying to help Cece deal with the fact that she accidentally got an Indian tattoo that had originally been drawn on her hand for the wedding got smeared on her face and wouldn’t come off after she fell asleep on her hand. To me, both of those storylines essentially felt like they were primarily meant to serve as obstacles that kept Jess and Nick from being able to talk about the fact that they had slept together.

With Jess preoccupied with trying to sub for a class at the school that was offering her a job, while also trying to help Cece deal with her tattoo, Nick was forced to spend the day with Bob. Jess had specifically told Nick not to tell her dad that they had slept together, and Nick initially tried to dodge Bob’s questions about his love life by telling him that he was interested in a girl named Yolanda Winston and he described “Yolanda Winston” as being the exact opposite of Jess, but of course Nick ended up telling Bob that he’s interested in Jess after he mistakenly came to the conclusion that Bob would be happy about this news.

New Girl: Season 2 finale preview: 5 things to know about ‘Elaine’s Big Day’-Zap2it

Here's some scoop on the season 2 finale of New Girl, episode 2x25 "Elaine's Big Day (Part 2)", from Zap2it's Laurel Brown.

1. Taylor Swift is indeed in "Elaine's Big Day," and she does have a speaking part. What she says and why she is there, however, must remain a mystery until the wedding itself.

2. Remember how Winston (Lamorne Morris) loves pranks but is incredibly bad at them (often with near-tragic consequences)? That comes into play in a big way in the finale. A badger gets involved.

3. Jess' (Zooey Deschanel) father, Bob (Rob Reiner), is still sleeping on that air mattress between Nick's (Jake Johnson) and Jess' rooms. He has trouble standing up when lying on it.

4. You may never experience the song, "Cotton Eyed Joe," the same way after this.

5. The traditional Indian wedding that Cece (Hannah Simone) and Shivrang (Satya Bhabha) opt for takes three hours to complete. This leaves plenty of time for antics, side-romances and second thoughts.

New Girl: Season 2 Spoilers-Flashback Episode Virginity and more-TVLine

Here's some scoop on the rest of season 2 of New Girl from TVLine's Michael Ausiello, which was revealed at the 2013 PaleyFest.

WINDY CITY FAREWELL | The death of Nick’s father finds the gang traveling to his native Chicago to hang with his family, including his mom (played by Emmy winner Margo Martindale). “It felt like a slightly different show for a week,” noted producer/director Jake Kasdan. “It felt like a pilot for a different show.” Spoiler alert: The Miller clan worships Nick and despises Jess, who for reasons that remain unclear dresses up like Elvis Presley in the episode.

ENCORES, ENCORES | Rob Reiner will reprise his role as Jess’ dad in Episode 24. Additionally, Dermot Mulroney pops up again as Jess’ ex Russell at a “very opportune moment” later this season, teased exec producer Brett Baer.

THE NAME GAME | Producers hinted that we may meet Schmidt’s mother next season. Also in the pipeline: Learning his real name.

REWIND | A flashback episode is currently in production, confirmed series creator Liz Meriwether. “It’s the story of how all of them lost their virginity,” she said, adding that Schmidt’s first time (with Nurse Jackie’s Merritt Wever) finds him getting “very overzealous with some lube.”

SISTER ACT | Deschanel revealed that her sister Emily nearly guest starred earlier this season as Jess’ carefree doppelganger Katie, but scheduling proved to be a problem. “She has no time because she has her own show,” she said. “And she also has a baby. It would be my greatest fantasy to have her on the show.”

New Girl: Scoop on Jess' parents and more on the Thanksgiving episode from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos

Here's some scoop on New Girl from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat Daily for Monday 10/8/12.

Brit in Playa del Rey, Calif.: Hit me with some New Girl spoilers!
The Thanksgiving episode might be one of our all time favorites, and we haven't even seen it yet! This opinion is just based on what Max Greenfield told us about it. He would not stop raving about the guest stars in the episode, like Rob Reiner and Jamie Lee Curtis, who will be playing Jess' parents. "When [Jamie Lee Curtis] shows up to set, she really shows up. She's a force," he gushes. "And Rob Riggle is playing Big Schmidt, Schmidt's cousin from Minnesota. All sorts of s--t happens. I literally cannot keep a straight face. I've ruined so much footage, it's unbelievable. He's the funniest man alive." We are now dying to eat some turkey with the New Girl gang this year.

New Girl: Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner to play Jess' parents-Inside TV | EW.com

jamie-lee-rob-reiner.jpg

According to Entertainment Weekly's Dan Snierson, Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner will be guest-starring in the season 2 Thanksgiving episode of New Girl as Jess' parents. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some details on Curtis' and Reiner's appearance on the show.:

EW has learned that actress/author Jamie Lee Curtis and actor/director/producer Rob Reiner will assume the roles of her divorced parents, Joan and Bob, who cross paths again in the loft at Thanksgiving. Jess is not happy that they are not together, and uses the holiday to try to  romantically reunite them in what’s being described as a “Parent Trap.” (What could go wrong? See: last year’s dryer turkey and corpse special.)

My thoughts: I have to admit that I didn't really start watching New Girl until this summer, and I really regret not watching the show sooner. New Girl is a very funny show with a great writing and a great cast for the most part. Although, I have to admit that Winston is my least favorite character on the show. I don't hate him, it's just that the character doesn't really stand out to me nearly as much as all of the other characters stand out to me as being extremely funny.

That being said, I find Jamie Lee Curtis and Rob Reiner being cast as Jess' parents to be extremely random casting. To be completely honest, I didn't think that Jamie Lee Curtis was acting very much these days outside of the commercials that she's done for Activia yogurt. I just figured she was mostly doing other things now such as write books. I've really liked Jamie Lee Curtis in the movies that I've seen her in, so I'm not upset about this casting. I just find this casting to be extremely random and unexpected, especially Rob Reiner being cast as Jess' dad since he's an actor that I've almost never thought about. I'm definitely anxious to see them on the show since the episode that they will be guest-starring in sounds very interesting and has great potential to be absolutely hilarious.
