Here's a promo for the upcoming new ABC series, Still Star-Crossed. As somebody who's a huge fan of William Shakespeare's plays, I'm really looking forward to this show. It looks awesome. :)

Question: Is Beth returning to Criminal Minds? The last episode, with Hotch’s death bed epiphany of sorts, seemed to hint that way. But I know the actress is now on Scandal. —Deanna
Ausiello: In a word, or four, Thomas Gibson says, “God, I hope so.” But he then points out: “It’s all up to Shonda,” as in the aforementioned Scandal’s creator. “It’d be very nice to see if she’d let [Bellamy Young] come and play. I’m hoping that they will.”

Bunheads: New Characters—Sibling Dancers to Diversify Season 1 Cast-TVLine

According to TVLine's Kimberly Roots, two new characters will be introduced in the second half of Bunheads' first season, which is currently scheduled to return in early 2013. The roles will be recurring guest-star roles. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives a description of the two characters:

Maggie is described as a bright, quirky 15- to 17-year-old who has an “indie Winona Ryder” vibe about her. Jack is around the same age and also is an individualist; both characters do their own thing and spend a lot of time in each other’s company. Though there’s no word yet on whether they will practice their pliés at the Paradise Dance Academy, the show is looking for actors with ballet experience.

Interesting to note: The fact that Bunheads wants to fill the parts with actors of color may be in response to observations – made most notably by Grey’s Anatomy creator Shonda Rhimes via Twitter – that the predominantly white cast needed some diversifying. At the time, the always frank Bunheads creator and executive producer Amy Sherman-Palladino said, “I don’t do message shows. I don’t give a s—t who you learn your life from.”

Grey's Anatomy's Shonda Rhimes Talks Season 9: Time Jumps, New Locations and New Docs-Today's News: Our Take | TVGuide.com

Here's an interview that TVGuides's Natalie Abrams did with the creator of Grey's Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes. In the interview, Rhimes talks about how the structure of the show will be different in season 9 from the structure of the show in the previous seasons, how the aftermath of the plane crash will affect various characters on the show, what will be happening with the various relationships on the show next season, and she also talks about how the character April will fit into the show given the fact that she failed her boards last season. Here's an excerpt from the article where Rhimes talks about what the structure of the show will be like in season 9:



You left the doctors in the woods without rescue! Will there be a time jump next season or are you picking up right where you left off?
Shonda Rhimes: We're doing something really interesting that we've never really done before. As you know, I try to reinvent every season. When we start the season, we're two to three months in the future and we're well settled into the year for these doctors. We're watching them do what they're going to do. They're located where they're going to be located, things are happening. You see the aftermath of what happened. You're left with some questions as to how this happened and "Why is this the way it is?" and "Why is that the way it is?" Then, in the second episode of the season, we start back in the woods. We go from there and you see what happens. Then ensuing episodes, you're back to regular time and we're back on our timeline.

What can you talk about in regards to the structure of this season? At the end of last season, the doctors planned to take jobs elsewhere, so are we seeing a show that's just set at Seattle Grace or are we seeing a show that is set at many hospitals?
Rhimes: We're seeing a show set at Seattle Grace and someplace else. What's interesting to me is that I didn't want us to feel like you're coming back and magically everyone is back home. You understand why some people stayed and why some people left. There are some very clear reasons what happened. It's very challenging playing an entirely separate story line in another location.

Can you tell us where this location is?
Rhimes: I don't want to say where the location is because that would be too spoilery. It's a hospital. When we come back at the beginning of the season, some of our doctors are in different locations, more than one of them, and some of our doctors are preparing to leave for different locations.

My thoughts: Based on what Shonda Rhimes said about what the structure of show is going to be like in season 9, I personally think it sounds like a very interesting direction to take Grey's Anatomy in next season. When a show has been on the air for as long as Grey's Anatomy has been, I think it's really important for the writers of a show to be willing to reinvent the show every once and a while. I've been really anxious to see how April will fit into the show given the fact that Sarah Drew is returning for season 9 after April failed her boards last season. I think that Rhimes' explanation of how April will be sticking around sounds rather vague, and yet I'm very intrigued to see what exactly she's talking about and how the writers will handle that. Season 9 of Grey's Anatomy can't start quickly enough for my taste.

Here's an interview that Shonda Rhimes did with TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich. In the interview, Rhimes talks about the season 1 finale and the first season as a whole. Rhimes also talks about her thoughts on what it was like to write and produce a show that had a shorter season compared to her other shows that typically have full seasons. She also discusses casting Tony Goldwyn as Fitz. Here's an excerpt from the article where Rhimes shares her thoughts on having Scandal's first season only be seven episodes long:



TVLINE | [ABC president] Paul Lee told me he gave you 13 episodes for Season 2 — and that you might be entirely content with that, because of the pacing you had in this first season.
I enjoyed having seven episodes. We took it as sort of a gift because it meant that we could tell story in a way that you can’t really tell story on network television.

TVLINE | Right? I mean this thing burned hot these last five weeks.
Yeah, and that was exciting for us. I wrote the pilot thinking, “Oh, we’re going to have to stretch this thing over 22 episodes, and that’s going to be hard,” and it was great to not have to stretch it over anything. It was like we were doing a little cable show. I constantly am saying, “Don’t we just want to do 13 episodes of everything?” But nobody listens to me. [Laughs]

TVLINE | Do you have any idea how much time will elapse on screen between seasons?
I don’t. I try not to let myself think about what we’re going to do next season, because I don’t want to get too excited about it and then not get the show picked up. We just started talking about it this week, and I haven’t made any decisions yet.

Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice Couples Scoop! Who's Getting a Dream House? More Heartbreak?-E! Online

Here's an excerpt from an article by E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos, which gives some scoop on several of the couples on Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice directly from Shonda Rhimes:



Meredith (Ellen Pompeo) and Derek (Patrick Dempsey): "You will see the dream house before the end of the season," Shonda tells me. "Although, we're getting closer and closer to the end of the season and now I'm not totally 100 percent sure how the season's going to end because contract negotiations haven't been finished. So I will say I'm planning on it and I am hopeful we're going to see the dream house before the end of the season." We'll take it!

Cristina (Sandra Oh) and Owen (Kevin McKidd): "It's going to get darker, people! It's going to get darker before it gets better," Shonda reveals. Say it together now, "Crowen" fans: But whhhhyyyy? "Cristina has gone through tremendous personal growth," Shonda explains. "For me, I was really interested in exploring [how] Cristina is, first and foremost before she's anything else, a surgeon and she's a person of gift. When that happens in men, everyone accepts it. When it happens in women, it's a very different thing. I was really interested in exploring that with that character because there's something really wonderful about this idea of this extraordinarily talented, gifted woman who is unapologetic about her desire not to have children and to have things sort of go her way and what that means when you're in a relationship. It's very complex." Understatement!

Sam (Taye Diggs) and Addison (Kate Walsh): "Things get very interesting. Jake has feelings for Addison, that's very clear, and Addison might have some feelings for Jake, but I think that Sam is always still very close to her heart and their problems don't seem so insurmountable to me. I really feel like Addison deserves some happiness and I'd like to see her get it." If only Shonda could control such storylines and make it happen. Oh wait…

My thoughts: I hope to god that both Ellen Pompeo and Patrick Dempsey will be returning next season. It wouldn't be Grey's Anatomy without them. Hopefully, they'll both return on a full-time basis next season, but if Patrick Dempsey returns in a somewhat reduced capacity, I suppose it wouldn't be the end of the world.

John Barrowman Joins Gilded Lilys--ABC Drama Pilot-TVLine

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, John Barrowman has joined the cast of the Gilded Lily's pilot for ABC, which is being executive produced by the creator of Grey's Anatomy, Shonda Rhimes. Here's an excerpt from the article, which gives some more details on the potential series:


To be penned by K.J. Steinberg (The Nine, Gossip Girl), Lilys is set in 1895 and promises to deliver an epic love story, a vicious rivalry and a scandalous secret unfolding against the backdrop of the opening of New York’s first luxury hotel. Barrowman will play a member of the show’s central family, the Lilys.

My thoughts: I wasn't planning on posting casting news for pilots since I don't know if a lot of people would read posts on pilots since they aren't established shows that a lot of people know about and track on Twitter, but I decided to post this news because out of all the pilots for potential TV shows for next fall, this is definitely the most interesting TV show pilot that I've read about so far for a number of reasons: I'm a huge fan of Shonda Rhimes' work on Grey's Anatomy; K.J. Steinberg has written several of my all-time favorite episodes of Gossip Girl; I love things that involve romance; I love TV shows that are time period dramas, such as Mad Men; last, but not least I'm a huge fan of John Barrowman and Blythe Danner. If Gilded Lilys goes to series, I'll definitely be watching it. :)

Sarah Michelle Gellar returns to ABC’s almost-over All My Children on Wednesday, Sept. 21, and her mysterious role has finally been revealed. The Buffy vet will play a “delusional” patient at Pine Valley Hospital who thinks she’s Erica Kane’s daughter! How perfect is that for the original Kendall Hart? • Charlie’s Angels vet Cheryl Ladd will appear in an October episode of CBS’ NCIS as a love interest for David McCallum’s Ducky, per EW.com. The ninth season of the crime drama debuts Sept. 20.

• It’s official: Jim Belushi is headed back to ABC. Per Deadline, the network has closed a deal with the According to Jim star to headline a multi-cam comedy about a co-dependent father and his teenage daughter.

• ABC is staying in business with Shonda Rhimes (Grey’s Anatomy, Private Practice). The network has picked up a new legal drama from the primetime queen, which centers on a young defense attorney who starts his own firm after being fired from a high-powered position.

• Fox has purchased a dramedy pilot from Ugly Betty producer Silvio Horta and Jennifer Lopez about “three [Latino] sisters and their interlinked lives,” according to Deadline.

• Scrubs/Cougar Town creator Bill Lawrence has sold his second project of the development season, per Deadline. The single-cam father-son pilot has landed at Fox.

Grey's Anatomy Creator Shonda Rhimes Sells Retro Hotel Drama to ABC - TVLine

Never one to let grass grow under her feet, Shonda Rhimes — who already has two shows on ABC (Grey’s Anatomy and Private Practice) and a third (the legal drama Scandal) en route for midseason — has now sold to the network a period drama penned by The Nine co-creator/Gossip Girl scribe K.J. Steinberg.

Grey’s Anatomy Boss’ Season 8 Finale Conundrum: ‘I Don’t Know What I’m Going to Do’

Set in New York City circa 1895, Gilded Lillys will tell the fictional tale of the first true luxury hotel ever built in the city, the family who owns it, the staff employed by it, and the guests who pass through.

Think of it as The Age of Innocence, if Winona Ryder and Daniel Day-Lewis ran the first Ritz-Carlton.

Steinberg will executive-produce with Rhimes and Grey’s vet Betsy Beers, and the project will be based out of ABC Studios/Shondaland.
