Grey’s Anatomy: Caterina Scorsone Promoted to Series Regular for Season 11

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Caterina Scorsone who reprised the role of Amelia Shepard from Private Practice, at the end of Grey's Anatomy's 10th season has been promoted to series regular status for the show's upcoming 11th season. Here's an excerpt from the article:

Back in April, Scorsone told TVLine that she remained hopeful that Shonda Rhimes would keep Derek’s kid sister around next season. “There are so many complicated aspects to where this story could go in the future,” she shared. “I would absolutely be game to play in this world as long as she wanted me there.”

Scorsone’s promotion follows the spring departures of Grey’s cast members Sandra Oh (Cristina), Gaius Charles (Shane) and Tessa Ferrer (Leah).

My thoughts: Personally, I always loved the character Amelia Shepard and I thought that Caterina Scorsone did an amazing job of playing the character on Private Practice, so I'm very excited to hear that she'll be sticking around on Grey's Anatomy next season. While I think that Grey's Anatomy already has a fairly large cast, I think this is a good move the producers' part given the fact that Sandra Oh, Gaius Charles and Tessa Ferrer have all left the show. I like that they are bringing in a new series regular character that's already been established on the show in the past in a smaller capacity and has a connection to several of the already existing characters on the show rather than bringing in an all new character that may or may not have a connection to the other characters on the show.

It always bugs me when long-running shows add all new characters that have little if any connection to the already existing characters just for the sake of filling the void left by departing cast members or simply as an attempt on the writers' part to freshen things up on a show that's been on the air for a long time like Grey's Anatomy has been. If producers of long-running TV shows want to add cast members to a show for any variety of reasons, I think the best thing to do in most situations is to bring back previous cast members or make past or present recurring guest-stars series regulars like the show is doing with Caterina Scorsone. All things considered, I'm very happy about this news, and I can't wait to see what the writers decide to do with Amelia storyline wise now that she'll be sticking around as a series regular for Grey's Anatomy's 11th season.

Scandal: Paul Adelstein Cast in a Recurring Guest-Star Role in Season 3-TVLine

Scandal Paul Adelstein

According to TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich, Paul Adelstein has been been cast in a recurring guest-star for Scandal's upcoming third season. Details regarding Adelstein's role are currently being kept top secret, but he will first appear on the show in late October. Here's an except from the article:

Regardless, hopefully Adelstein’s character — who will first surface in late October — fares better than that of real-life wife Liza Weil, who played White House intern Amanda Tanner during Season 1.

Scandal marks Adelstein’s first TV role since Private Practice wrapped its run in January. (Mother’s Day, a pilot in which he played husband to Debra Messing, did not make CBS’ 2013-14 schedule.) The actor’s previous TV credits also include Prison Break (Kellerman!) and Rob Thomas’ Cupid.

Scandal opens Season 3 on Thursday, Oct. 3.

My thoughts: Despite the fact that nothing has been revealed about Paul Adelstein's role yet, I'm beyond excited about this news. I loved him on Private Practice, so I'm very confident that he'll do a great job on Scandal. Honestly, I had completely forgotten that Paul Adelstein is married to Liza Weil until I read the original article. I loved her on Gilmore Girls, and she was great on Scandal too, but I digress. That being said, since Shonda Rhimes clearly has a habit of using the same actors on several of her shows, I would love it if Chris Lowell, KaDee Strickland, Taye Diggs, Benjamin Bratt, or Caterina Scorsone appeared on Scandal at some point in the future. I loved them all on Private Practice, and I think it would be great to see them on Scandal, or any TV show for that matter. One thing is for sure though, Shonda Rhimes pretty much always does a great job of casting good actors to appear on her TV shows.

Scandal: Lisa Edelstein to Guest-Star-TVLine

 Lisa Edelstein Scandal Season 2

According to TVLine's Michael Ausiello, Lisa Edelstein will be guest-starring in an upcoming episode of Scandal. Here's an excerpt from the article:

According to sources, Edelstein will play a client of Olivia Pope and Associate on the series, which is returning to a (mostly) case-of-the-week format in this season’s final nine episodes.

Edelstein’s post House gigs have included a run on The Good Wife, guest stint on Elementary, and an arc on House of Lies current second season.

My thoughts: I have say that I'm beyond excited about this news, because I'm a huge fan of Lisa Edelstein, especially when it comes to her acting on House. Plus, I'm also a huge fan of Scandal,  so I can't wait to see Lisa Edelstein on the show. I really feel like the show has been on fire this season, both creatively and in terms of the ratings. I'll admit that I didn't really get into watching Scandal until this past summer when I bought the season one DVD set so I could watch the entire season since I had only seen the first episode before that.

The first episode alone instantly got me hooked on the show. Scandal is a truly fantastic show, and I'm thrilled that more and more people have been discovering the show this season. As much as I loved the first season, I'm loving season two even more so far. I always thought that Shonda Rhimes was a genius storyteller when it came to her writing for Grey's Anatomy and Private Practice, but I think that Scandal is her true masterpiece. If you're not already watching Scandal, then you definitely need to start watching the show immediately.

Private Practice: Violet related scoop on the series finale (Episode 6x13 "In Which We Say Goodbye") from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Private Practice from this week's (Posted on 1/15/13) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Do you have any scoop about the Private Practice series finale? —Tara
Ausiello: What if I told you that in next Tuesday’s series finale, Parenthood‘s Sarah Ramos is guest-starring as… the entire Private Practice audience? Amy Brenneman told Matt Mitovich that Violet’s final storyline  is “this beautiful, metaphorical thing” in which a patient of five-plus years has trouble saying goodbye. “She’s ready to move on, but she’s like, ‘I need you.’ And I say things like, ‘We’ve been meeting together once a week for a little more than five years…. You’re going to be OK,’” Brenneman previews. “And I am Shonda [Rhimes] talking to our sweet audience.” (Hmm, does that mean the episode ends after 45 minutes…?)

Parenthood: Scoop on Sarah Ramos' involvement with the show from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Parenthood from this week's (Posted on 1/8/13) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Have we seen the last of Haddie this season on Parenthood? —Kim
Ausiello: Affirmative. “The Christmas episode was the last we see of her this season,” confirms exec producer Jason Katims. “We’re hoping if we come back next season to do more stories with her. It is challenging because you’re trying to be real, and the reality is that she’s 3,000 miles away.” Haddie, or actually her portrayer Sarah Ramos, will next seen as a patient of Violet’s in the Jan. 22 Private Practice finale.

Private Practice: Scoop on the rumor about whether or not all 13 episodes of the final season will air from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Private Practice from this week's (Posted on 11/20/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Is the rumor true that ABC isn’t going to air all 13 episodes of Private Practice‘s final season because the ratings have been poor? –@kchadha19 via Twitter
Ausiello: That’s most definitely not true — and that denial comes straight from ABC president Paul Lee. “It’s absolutely finishing out its run,” the exec told TVLine Monday night at The Saban Free Clinic’s Gala, where he was an honoree. “We’re really proud of it. Private has been a real asset to ABC for a very long time, we’re super-proud to have it and we want to give it a big sendoff.”

Private Practice: Scoop on episode 6x08 from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Private Practice from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich's weekly column Matt's Inside Line for the week of 10/25/12.

Private Practice | Previously on TVLine, KaDee Strickland used words such as “phenomenal” to describe the script for the Cooper-centric Episode 8. Now here she is (sorta) telling you what that hour is about. “It’s ‘Cooper All The Time’!” she laughs. “Everything you have fallen in love with about Cooper over the last six years, there’s a full hour of it. It’s ‘Cooper’s Greatest Hits,’ that’s what it is.” Which, given the news about the series’ end date, sets up a nice send-off for the character (as well as the others who each get a POV-centric episode before the Episode 13 finale). “After six years of doing these two [characters], it’s so great when you get in there and still enjoy working together,” Strickland says of scene partner Paul Adelstein. “I mean, we’ve been seeing each other at work on a daily basis for six years, and it’s wonderful how that can imbue the work. We had a lot of laughs and a lot of fun making that episode.”

Private Practice: Charlotte and Cooper related scoop from E! Online's Kristin Dos Santos

Here's some scoop on Private Practice from Kristin Dos Santos' Spoiler Chat Daily for Thursday 10/11/12.

Lucas W.: Private Practice scoop! Will we see Charlotte & Cooper's babies before the end of the season?
We asked KaDee Strickland and Paul Adelstein the same question while visiting the set of Private Practice recently. "Cooper has always expressed interest in having children, even before he knew he already had one. And Charlotte has been adamant about not wanting them, so it's definitely going to be a little bit of conflict between them," Adelstein says. "He's feeling that [Charlotte is] showing herself as such a good mother [to Mason], so why wouldn't we add to this and have one of our own? So we'll see what happens." Strickland adds: "Cooper is ever the romantic, he always has ideas." Maybe one of those romantic ideas will eventually equal baby time on PP!

Here's some scoop on Private Practice and Grey's Anatomy from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez's The Spoiler Room column, which was posted on 10/1/12.

Do you have scoop on Addison from Private Practice? — Danielle L.
Well, we all know that Kate Walsh is done with Private Practice after the this season, but from what she tells us, our farewell to Addison might not be forever. “I’m sure she could still pop up on either [Private Practice or Grey's Anatomy] occasionally,” she says. “That’s Shonda’s decision really. I wouldn’t want to do it all of the time but I certainly wouldn’t be opposed to it either especially if a good storyline came up that needed her.”

Private Practice: Addison related scoop on season 6 from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich

Here's some scoop on Private Practice from TVLine's Matt Webb Mitovich's weekly column Matt's Inside Line for the week of 9/14/12.

Private Practice | Mandy asks: “Do you have some scoop on Addison?” What if my answer was a qualified maybe? Although Kate Walsh told us last month that she had yet to get wind of any plans to revisit or meet more of Addison’s family during her final run with the ABC drama, a casting notice has just gone out for the role of Vivian, a “whip-smart, strong and scientific” woman in her seventies. Could the same situation that brings Sam’s mother to town also act as catalyst to meet Bizzy or the Captain’s mom/Ad’s grandmother? Can you think of another relative we might meet, of that age? Ooh, or how about this: Viv is some affluent überresearcher who invites Addison to run her fancy-pants clinic in Switzerland?

Private Practice: Scoop on the season 6 premiere from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez

Here's some scoop on Private Practice from Entertainment Weekly's Sandra Gonzalez's The Spoiler Room column, which was posted on 9/8/12.

Hi Sandra, I can’t remember the last time Spoiler Room had some Private Practice scoop on Charlotte & Cooper. Its been SO long! Will you pls help this HUGE [fan] out! Thanks! – KC
In times like these, I must call in reinforcements. And by that, I mean my colleague Tanner Stransky, who spoke with Kate Walsh for EW’s Fall TV Preview (on stands now!). He brought me this tease just for you: In the season opener, we all know that Addison will be making her decision between Jake and Sam. What you may not have heard? That her big choice is just one of many huge things happening in the opener. (And yes, we’re talking about Char and Coop, too.) “Huge news happens to every single character,” says Walsh. “We’re doing things that are totally in line with what would be realistic for these characters. But also it’s really intense, and they include socio-political issues that come up that just are really kind of razor-edge, ethically debatable, and really killer storylines.”

Private Practice: Scoop on Kate Walsh's exit in season 6 from TVLine's Michael Ausiello

Here's some scoop on Private Practice from this week's (Posted on 9/4/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Do you have spoilers on Addison’s final season of Private Practice? Is there a chance Kate Walsh will change her mind and stay? —Cara
Ausiello: I suppose there’s always a chance, but it’s a very slim one. “Kate and I have been working together for a long time and I really consider her a friend,” notes Walsh’s boss, Shonda Rhimes. “I feel like she knows what she wants to do and is very clear about it — and not in a way that feels bitter. She’s just ready. Everyone has their moment when they think to themselves, ‘Okay, I’ve done this; I’m ready for a new challenge.’ I don’t think that she will change her mind.”
