Here's some scoop on the series finale of Chuck from this week's (Posted on 1/24/12) Ask Ausiello column.

Question: Although I still want six seasons and a movie, this seems to be your last chance to give us a scoop on Chuck (insert tears). Make it count, Michael. Make it count! —Heather
Ausiello: You and your pressure-cooker questions, Heather. My final Chuck scoop comes in the form of a confession from Mark Pellegrino: The Lost actor admits he was a little shocked to be included among the assorted “call back” cameos in the swan song. “I never thought that my character would see the light of day again,” he says. “I didn’t even have a name [in the pilot], did I?! I was just ‘Fuclrum Agent,’ so it was interesting. The stuff that I’m in is pretty shocking and funny at the same time. I think the fans will enjoy it.”

Chuck: Cheryl Ladd Previews Season 5 Episode 8-TVLine

NBC’s Chuck (Fridays, 8/7c) marked the midway point of its farewell season by dropping a “baby” bombshell relating to Sarah’s past. The action picks up this week with Sarah, dreading whatever it is that Shaw set in motion, high-tailing it to Hungary to confront her original CIA handler (played by White Collar‘s Tim DeKay), whom she fears is out to harm, among others, her mother Emma (Charlie’s Angels‘ Cheryl Ladd).

Securing intel on Emma “was always a big piece of the puzzle for me that I wanted to close,” Yvonne Strahovski said during TVLine’s visit to the Chuck set. “We knew about Sarah’s dad (played by Gary Cole), but I wanted to know, and I’m sure everybody else wanted to know, what happened with her mom.”

In fact, to date all we really know about Emma is that she walked out on the family when Sarah was a young child. And if there has been any contact in the years since, it hasn’t been much. “They have not spent time together,” Cheryl Ladd confirms for TVLine, “so who they are with each other is fragile.”

As for how the “baby” mentioned by Shaw figures into Sarah reconnecting with her mother, Ladd will only say that it’s “surprising” and that the storyline that follows serves up “a touching, fascinating twist,” told partly in flashback.

“I can’t tell you too much about the episode,” Ladd apologizes, “but it’s very interesting for Sarah…. Chuck fans are going to be really pleased they went on this journey. They’re going to be wowed.”

Strahovski echoes “Mom’s” sentiment, saying that the backstory they came up with for Sarah and Emma is “beautiful. It’s a good story.”

Reflecting on her five-year Chuck mission, Strahovski says, “I’m really happy with the journey that Sarah Walker has had, from the emotionally stunted spy who didn’t know how to express herself to somebody who was more emotional and could express that, and then getting into more of the comedy stuff on the show, as she fell into a normal relationship — or as normal as you can get with somebody when you’re a spy. It’s been a really nice evolution.”

Speaking of evolutions: While speaking with Ladd, we sought out her opinion on ABC’s recent reboot of Charlie’s Angels, an elite club to which she belonged in the late 1970s (famously replacing Farrah Fawcett-Majors). Having seen several episodes of the new incarnation before its cancellation, Ladd says that what it was most missing was heart.



Recalling her own run as an Angel, “You felt like all of us were just crazy about each other, that we would die for each other, that we had a real friendship with each other and cared about each other,” she says. Plus, Ladd notes, whereas Kris, Sabrina, Kelly et all were former policewomen, the new sexy sleuths were “bad girls” trying to turn a new leaf.

“I get that it had to be a fresh version, but it was just so different,” Ladd states. “It was not enough heart and too many explosions.”

Ausiello: It’s been way too long, Sami. Way. Too. Long. Here’s your long overdue scoopage: Little Sofia threatens to derail Callie’s big Valentine’s Day surprise for Arizona on Feb. 9, but it’s not the tyke’s fault; it’s Mark’s. Callie asks him to look after their daughter but he’s got plans of his own, so she tries to pawn babysitting duties off on the other docs. I’m guessing it all works out because the episode ends with Callie escorting a blindfolded Arizona to [spoiler].

Question: All I want for Christmas is a good Meredith and Derek scoop. You got any? —Jessica
Ausiello: Santa Clausiello at your service! You’ll be happy to know that Der and Mer are very much a part of the aforementioned V-Day episode. Let’s just say they are definitely in the mood.

Question: Got any news about Caroline’s storyline on The Vampire Diaries? —Charlotte
Ausiello: She’s turning 18, and for her birthday the show’s writers are giving her the second episode back, airing Jan. 12! “It’s a big [one] for Caroline,” confirms showrunner Julie Plec of the installment. “It’s emotional. It’s scary. It’s very, very, very powerful.” But the episode isn’t all about Candice Accola’s vamp. “It’s a big episode for the friends — for Elena and Matt and Bonnie and Caroline,” Plec adds. “It’s a big episode for Tyler and Caroline’s relationship. It’s a massive episode for Stefan and Elena, and Stefan’s pissing contest with Klaus and the lengths he is willing to go to make his point, not giving a damn about anyone or anything. It’s a big episode for Damon’s continued evolution as villain to hero. It’s just a nice episode all around.”

Question: The wait for new Vampire Diaries episodes is maddening. Please give us some Delenda scoop to tide us over? —Gabi
Ausiello: Stefan’s seeming betrayal of Damon and Elena leaves the pair “fraught with sexual and romantic tension and very, very, very angry at Stefan,” reveals Plec. “It leaves them thrown together to defend themselves against whatever Klaus’ next move is going to be. It leads to a fairly interesting showdown between Damon and Stefan in which Damon literally tries to beat the answer out of Stefan as to why Stefan betrayed him and ruined his plan.”

Question: How about you give me the Vampire Diaries scoop I so desperately need? —Elizabeth
Ausiello: We definitely haven’t seen the last of badass Original sister Rebekah, Plec tell us. But don’t expect a happy reunion when someone finally takes that dagger out of her. “She let herself get emotionally duped by Elena, and Elena literally stabbed her in the back,” explains Plec. Rebekah’s anger at Elena will be “a big problem for Klaus, who doesn’t want anything to happen to [Elena], and for Elena herself, who pulled the ultimate mean girl back stab and is going to have to pay the price for that.” Rebekah will also be none too pleased with Klaus for lying to her about their mother’s death. “She’s just mad period,” says Plec with a laugh, “all around.”

Question: I read that Daisy is coming back in Episode 7 of Bones. What’s going on between her and Sweets in that episode? —Ed
Ausiello: Sounds like shenanigans. “They’re up to what they shouldn’t be in Brennan’s office,” teases exec producer Stephen Nathan.

Question: Do you have any spoilers about Shameless — particularly about Steve/Fiona? —Domi
Ausiello: Sorry, Fiona/Steve lovers, but Justin Chatwin is mostly M.I.A. when Season 2 resumes on Jan. 8. Fiona’s rebound dance card, meanwhile, remains full, first with Lone Star‘s James Wolk, and next with Vampire Diaries‘ Taylor Kinney. The latter plays an old and now-married crush of Fiona’s from high school with whom she reconnects with. Look out for a ROTFLOL-worthy scene set inside a car that will have you looking at Kinney in a whole new light.

Question: Any exhilarating scoop on Season 2 of Homeland? —Joey
Ausiello: Don’t expect any major cast changes during the hiatus. “I would imagine everybody is coming back,” EP Alex Gansa tells TVLine’s Matt Mitovich. “Of our regulars, I think everybody is coming back.”

Question: Just about a month until Justified is back… and I can hardly wait! Any scoop? Please? I have cookies. —Michele
Ausiello: File this under “W” for “WTF?!?!?!” Early into Season 3, Boyd is desperately trying to stay in prison and Raylan is desperately trying to get him out! Now gimme my cookie!

Question: Do you have anything about Downton Abbey‘s second season? —Brooke
Ausiello: Someone should install a revolving door in the entrance to the estate, because within the first three episodes one staff member is fired, another one quits and a third one returns after a long absence. And I haven’t even gotten to the comings and goings among the family!

Question: Just wondering if you had any scoop on the upcoming 100th episode of The Big Bang Theory? —Shoof
Ausiello: Major spoilers about the milestone episode can be found here. Now here’s a scoop about the 101st episode: Kripke’s returning! John Ross Bowie confirms to TVLine that he’ll be reprising his role as Sheldon’s nemesis in early ’12. “I don’t know anything [about the story], but I have never had a dull episode,” he notes. “I’ve done rock climbing, karaoke and I had a bunch of chemical foam dumped on me. Maybe stunt driving is next. I’m a little scared. I’m pretty sure whatever it is I will be back for it is not in the name of good. He is a supervillain. He is so abrasive and he actually seems to like being that way. So I highly doubt I will be building bridges to friendship with Leonard and Sheldon. Plus, we have not see Kripke since Amy and Sheldon got together so there could be a lot of fun to be had with that. Maybe he’ll try to steal her away.” Bowie, meanwhile, doesn’t see Kripke becoming a more permanent fixture on Big Bang. “As much as I love playing the character, I have to agree with the people on the Internet: A little Kripke goes a long way,” he says.

Question: Can we please give us a little Gossip Girl/Dair something to keep us going before you make our hearts explode in January? You’re such a tease! —Lana
Ausiello: Good things come to those who wait… two more weeks. (Trust me, it’ll be worth the wait.)

Question: What can we expect to see in the next HIMYM episodes? — Annette
Ausiello: More Kal Penn. “We love working with Kal and I really like his character, Kevin,” EP Carter Bays tells me. “There’s a great episode coming up with him. It’s a fun little adventure with Ted, Barney and Kevin together. It’s fun seeing him in the mix.” Bays also says there’s a decent chance Ashley Williams will reappear. “We never want to let go of Victoria. And I definitely think one visit [this season] is far too few.” Agreed.

Question: You seem to be the master of all Good Wife scoop, which is awesome (or just plain good). So, I ask you: Any word if the show plans to bring back Lisa Edelstein? —Shane
Ausiello: No plans at the moment. But I’ll tell you who is returning: This person!

Question: How about some scoop on Shaw’s return to Chuck this Friday? —Joel
Ausiello: How about it, indeed! “We’ll realize that Decker and his plan has all been manipulated by Daniel Shaw from his [prison] cell,” reveals EP Chris Fedak. “We wanted to do a monster story. We wanted to do a Christmas story. Christmas is such a haunted holiday, like in the Charles Dickens tradition. So when we started thinking about this year’s Christmas story, we thought, ‘Let’s bring back a monster from our past.’ At the end of Season 3, Brandon [Routh] was such a good ‘Mwahaha’ bad guy. I was like, “We gotta bring back the ‘Mwahaha.’” Fedak calls the hour “one of our most crazy, intense” episodes ever, adding, “It’s Daniel Shaw haunting Sarah Walker. Brandon came back, and he was great. He just plays an icy killer like nobody else.”

Question: I know everyone’s talking about Deb walking in on Dex in the Dexter finale, but I want to know about the creepy intern. What’s the deal with him sending Dex the arm of his dead brother? —Steve
Ausiello: The deal is… you’ll have to wait until Season 7 to find out. Asked why he left the Louis (Josh Cooke) thread dangling in the finale, exec producer Scott Buck told me, “I think what we’re doing with Louis is setting him up for things to come.”

Question: Now that Enlightened has been (thankfully) renewed for a second season, do you know if Mike White plans to introduce a love interest for Amy? Girlfriend needs to get some. —Deb
Ausiello: I’ll let Laura Dern (via TVLine’s Michael Slezak) tackle this one. “She hasn’t had kids and she’s had a divorce, and you want to know if I feel like she’s finally going to meet somebody, and all I can say to you is, “God I hope so,” the Golden Globe nominee says with a laugh. “But I’m just not sure.  I just don’t know, even if it’s a wrapped with a neat little bow, it’s going to be tricky.”

Question: Have you heard anything about Terra Nova‘s chances at a second season? —Renee
Ausiello: I’d put them at 50/50.

Question: Can you tell me something about Episode 200 of NCIS? —Bianca
Ausiello: Sadly, I can’t. That information is under lock and key. I can, however, tell you that Sarah Jane Morris isn’t the only NCISalum returning in the episode airing Jan. 3. CBS confirms that Scott Wolf will also be back, reprising his role as Agent Stratton. “Stratton intends to finish what he started and influence some unexpected lives in the process,” teases exec producer Gary Glasberg, “including Gibbs’.”

Question: Anything on Southland? —Cory
Ausiello: Look for a very brief and mostly silent reunion between Cooper and Sherman in the Season 4 premiere (airing Jan. 17). On the work front, Sherman comes to blows with another cop (guest star Lou Diamond Phillips) over his lax attitude about protocol, while Cooper is paired with Lucy Liu’s new cop character, who requested him for a very specific reason.

Question: I’m obsessed with New Girl. Best new comedy of the season. Scoop me, please! —Dave
Ausiello: As you know, True Blood‘s Ryan Kwanten will guest star early next year as Jess’ Valentine’s Day one-night stand. But what you may not know is that the actor is a sitcom star waiting to be born. “He played off of Zooey [Deschanel] really well and just immediately got the comedy and knocked it out of the park,” raves series creator Liz Meriwether. “I was potentially distracted by staring into his eyes, but I did get past that and was genuinely laughing at pretty much everything he was doing.”

What juicy goodness is on tap for Ringer‘s return? Can Morgan succeed with his most critical mission ever? Will baby talk waylay Big Bang‘s nerdy wedding plans? Read on for those answers, plus other teases from TV’s hottest shows.


Ringer | Since this CW series’ 2012 return got pushed back a few weeks [groan], I thought I’d help soothe fans over with some teasers. Overall, I am told, the new year we will serve up new reveals about the backstories of all of the characters. For example, we will find out what exactly caused the rift between Siobhan and Bridget and get the 411 on the precise catalyst for Henry and Siobhan’s love affair. Looking forward versus back, Andrew will propose anew to his “wife” (awww), we’ll get a peek inside Agent Machado’s personal life, and, of course, you should be prepared for the body count to grow….

The Big Bang Theory | Based on the buzz at the CBS hitcom’s 100th episode party, all signs point to Howard and Bernadette heading for a wedding this season… that is, provided they can get past a tot-sized problem. In an upcoming episode, Simon Helberg says, we will see that “Bernadette has a violent reaction to children.” Meaning…? ” She is not as soft as she seems. She turns into a bit of a werewolf,” Helberg adds. “And when he sees the eyes and the claws come out, all of a sudden he’s like, ‘Wait a second. We need to talk about children.’” Melissa Rauch, who plays Helberg’s TV fiancée, is game to tackle that twist, noting, “There aren’t a lot of women portrayed who don’t get all baby-crazy.”

Blue Bloods | Dipping into the reader mailbag, Kristen writes, “I’d love to get some scoop on Blood Bloods as an early Christmas present, preferably about the woefully underused Abigail Hawk, who plays Baker. Plus, any scoop about Erin would not be unappreciated.” Alas I’ve got nothing to report on the imminent horizon for Baker, but I can tell you that when the CBS drama returns on Jan. 6, Erin will be devastated and wracked by guilt when a confidential informant who has been aiding her in a corruption investigation meets a (gulp) most unfortunate fate.

Switched at Birth | Speaking with Constance Marie, who plays Regina, at ABC Family’s skating party, I asked about the “skeletons” said to be hiding in the closet of Bay’s recently resurfaced biological father. “Yes, he does have skeletons — and he is also not too bad to look at,” she said with a nod to Angela’s portrayer, Gilles Marini. “The good news is that we get to explore the relationship of a father who wasn’t there, a flawed father… a handsome-looking father… and the relationship between him and I — is it over, is it not over?” As for Angelo’s dynamic with Daphne, Katie Leclerc told me, “Things get nasty” between the two when Season 1 resumes Jan. 3.

Happy Endings | Thus far on ABC’s buzzy sophomore comedy, we’ve met Penny’s mother, Max’s parents, and Michael McKean (Smallville) is on his way to play Dave’s dad. So where be Jane and Alex’s folks? “What I’ve been kind of told,” Eliza Coupe shared with us, “is that they’re going to wait until hopefully a third season, or maybe the end of this year” to introduce viewers to the sisters’ parents. Until then, Coupe and her TV sib have batted around the occasional guest-casting idea, including one that would put an exclamation point on the 24 in-joke made during Season 1. “I was joking about Kiefer Sutherland playing our dad — it’d be so original for Elisha [Cuthbert], wouldn’t it? ” Coupe says. “I also said Jim Carrey, because I want in some capacity to work with him. But that one’s a bit of a stretch.”

Chuck | Morgan may have lost his frosted tips (thank god), but during his rough patch with the Intersect he also lost the girl. So now, continuing through the terrific Christmas episode (airing Dec. 23), the rookie spy will do his best to rescue his love life. “Morgan’s going to be desperate to try to get Alex back, but it’s not an easy thing,” says series cocreator Chris Fedak. After all, “He broke up [with her] on a text [message]. He turned into a douche.” The key to succeeding in this off-the-books mission, says Joshua Gomez, lies in “being persistent, as Morgan often is, and maybe getting a little help from the big guy” – meaning not Him, but J.C. aka John Casey.

Ask Ausiello: Spoilers on Glee, HIMYM, Revenge, Anarchy, Good Wife, Gossip Girl and More!-TVLine

Question: You mentioned a while back that the upcoming Glee episode titled “The Proposal” would be a big one for Will and Emma. Any particular reason why? —Radames
Ausiello: Um, because he proposes to her in it? [Cue eye roll, heavy sigh and finger gun to head.] And it’s not just any proposal. According to the question-popper himself, Matthew Morrison, “It’s the most spectacular proposal I’ve ever seen.” Care to elaborate, MM? “All I can say is it’s wet. And it involves a big dance.” THIS JUST IN: Sources confirmed exclusively to TVLine that the title of the episode has just been changed from “The Proposal” to “Yes/No.” Hmm…..

Question: Anything else you can share about Becki Newton’s character on How I Met Your Mother — aside from her being a love interest for Barney? —Jorja
Ausiello: She’s basically Barney, minus the boy parts. “We’ve always toyed with introducing the world to the female Barney,” says exec producer Carter Bays. “And that might be too simple a way to describe her, but she’s not going to take any s–t from Barney. This girl is going to kind of beat up on him a little bit. It will be an even match.”

Question: Can you give us some scoop about Barney and Robin on HIMYM? —Annette
Ausiello: It sounds like Barney will find out that Robin can’t have children, and sooner rather than later. Bays says her secret “will be key to what happens in the remaining 12 episodes of the season. It’s an important pivot point for the season.”

Question: My three favorite shows at the moment: Homeland, The Good Wife, and American Horror Story. Got scoop on any of ‘em? —Joey
Ausiello: Eenie, meenie, miney… Horror Story! In this week’s episode, the ghostly gay couple played by Zachary Quinto and Teddy Sears feud with Constance over their very differing plans for the to-be-born Harmon twins. Also the show breaks the flashback barrier when it travels all the way back to 1590! (Keep reading for scoop on another one of your three favorite shows, Joey.)

Question: Tell me something new about Gossip Girl‘s 100th episode. —Courtney
Ausiello: Intel continues to trickle in and, if what I’m hearing about the episode’s final act is true, it has the potential to be the single greatest hour of my life television ever.


Question: Is the Gossip Girl dream sequence that leaked online last week from the 100th episode? —Anna
Ausiello: Yes, Serena will be channeling her inner Marilyn in Episode 100 on January 30.

Question: Longtime reader, never written in before, but I need some Revenge hints to help me get through the break. Regarding the promo for the next episode, which shows Tyler pointing a gun — any hints as to who he fires at? Does it result in death? Does he even pull the trigger, or is it just one big tease? —Jack
Answer: I can’t answer all of your questions. Or, okay, technically, really any of them. But this might tide you over. Gabriel Mann, who plays Nolan, tells TVLine, tongue in cheek, “It probably wasn’t a good idea for [Tyler] to run out of those meds. That’s a little frightening for all of us.” And, perhaps especially, for his own character. “I will tease very, very bad things for him,” he says. “There is a reason you didn’t see him sitting at that table with everyone else.” Yikes! “Our coming back New Year ep,” he adds, “is… oh my God, I wish I could tell you more! I’m so tempted!” Alas, not tempted enough. If he blabbed, he says with a laugh, “I would get revenge’d right off the show!”

Question: I’m intrigued by the theory you guys put out there about Nolan and Emily being half-siblings on Revenge. Any reason to believe it’s actually true? —Michelle
Ausiello: No, but Gabriel Mann’s a fan of the idea. “I love that theory,” he told us. “That’s the thing with Emily and Nolan — and just us as actors — we have so much fun together that if they want to make us like a Luke and Leia situation, we’re so down… We’re like the tectonic twosome of the Hamptons. The two blonde avengers.”

Question: Please bring on the Good Wife spoilers. This can’t be the end of Will and Alicia! —Janine
Ausiello: I’m afraid it’s the end… for now at least. But as one romance ends, a new one blossoms: Eli Gold is finally going to get some lovin’! And the lucky girl is someone we met for the first time this season. Guesses? Hit the comments!

Question: Now that ABC has pulled Man Up, does that open up the possibility of Cougar Town coming back early? —Patrick
Ausiello: Not really. The dreadful-looking Work It has already hijacked Man Up‘s timeslot, so fingers crossed the gender bending “comedy” dies an even quicker death so C-Town can take its rightful place back on ABC’s schedule. Speaking of which, any Laurie-Travis fans out there? Well, get a load of this: Laurie falls for a military dude who’s stuck in the Middle East, and their only means of communication is via Skype. Enter Travis, who reluctantly agrees to become the Whoopi Goldberg to the soldier’s Patrick Swayze. (!!!!!!!!!)

Question: So, 90210‘s been pretty exciting this season! But, I’m dying for some Naomi scoop! What’s up with her chasing ALL her men away? — Josie
Ausiello: You sure you aren’t watching repeats from last season? ‘Cause this season’s 90210 is so bad it’s practically unbearable. In fact, the only thing that’s stopping me from deleting my season pass is this next spoiler: Crazy Adrianna is returning in the new year — and this time she’s adding kidnapping to her rap sheet! Woo-hoo! Crazy Ade’s back!

Question: Regarding your recent blind item, is Homeland the freshman drama relocating to New York? – Joey
Ausiello: It is not.

Question: Any post-hiatus Community scoop re: Jeff/Britta? –Amy
Ausiello: The show is currently shooting scenes at a carnival. Why? Because Jeff learns that Britta has fallen for a Carnie and he wants to meet the little circus freak!

Question: Got any Happy Endings scoop? —Trista
Ausiello: Brad and Jane won’t be revisiting the parenthood question anytime soon. According to Eliza Coupe, “It hasn’t been brought up again that they want to have a baby.” And that’s fine by her. “We were all talking about that other day and no babies can come on this show,” Coupe says with a laugh. “We do not want to have to deal with that — not as the characters or the actors or anything… But if the show goes on for as long as we hope it will, somebody will probably pop a kid out.”

Question: I have a bad feeling Juice is not out of the woods just yet on Sons of Anarchy. The gang has to find out that he killed Miles, right? —Jeff
Ausiello: Sounds like the answer is hell yeah. “One of the things we try to do on the show is not let anything sort of happen in a vacuum,” says Sons boss Kurt Sutter. “Ultimately, these secrets always do come back. The truth is, Juice did kill Miles and he did ultimately rat on the club. And even though it’s buried for now, there are people out there that are aware that he’s done it. So, yeah, I’m sure we will probably find the right story at some point to bring that back in play.”

Question: Chuck me! —Jeremy
Ausiello: Rebecca Romijn’s barbaric CIA agent — who debuts in this Friday’s episode — used to be a man! No, the actress isn’t playing another transgender character (as she did on Ugly Betty). Allow Chuck exec producer Chris Fedak to explain: “We created a character originally that was going to be a man. A Family spy reports that the Dunphy and Pritchett clans were shooting scenes at a Los Angeles-area church last week and “it was definitely a wedding or commitment ceremony.” Alas, a source close to the show tells me that the bride and groom are merely family friends, adding that producers “just wanted everyone at a wedding.”

Question: Switched at Birth scoop, please! —Mena
Ausiello: When Switched at Birth‘s Katie Lerclerc told us at the American Music Awards last month that “Wilke [is still] in the mix” for Daphne’s affections, she was downplaying things. We just screened the season 1.5 premiere (airing Jan. 3) and those two have quite the heart-to-heart on the pier.

The Vampire Diaries | Let’s start by dipping into the mailbag and helping fans of this CW drama cope a bit with the holiday hiatus. Amy asks, “Can you give me any TVD scoop? Specifically, Caroline and/or Stefan scoop?” Amy, here is exec producer Julie Plec’s holiday gift to you: “When the show returns [on Jan. 5], Stefan has been MIA since he stole Klaus’s family coffins, but we’ll learn he’s been busy trying to figure out a way to stay one step ahead of Klaus. When Elena and Damon finally have the opportunity to confront him about his recent actions, his response makes Damon think twice about acting on his feelings for Elena.” Caroline, meanwhile, doesn’t resurface until Jan. 12, when, Plec says, “she and Tyler come to terms with their recent breakup and what Tyler’s sire bond means for their future. Oh, and it’s her 18th birthday!”

Criminal Minds | Iris tweeted at me, “Can you get some scoop on the 150th episode? Need more ‘intense plane scene’ deets!” Well, the milestone hour, as TVLine previously scooped, guest-stars Dina Meyer (Birds of Prey) as a rape victim who takes into custody her own suspect (The Shield‘s Jay Karnes), leaving the BAU to determine A) if she got it right and B) what to do with this lady vigilante. As exec producer Erica Messer explains, “We took a typical episode where the good guys find the bad guys and put it on its head. We’ve got a victim who thinks she’s found her offender… but she may be holding the wrong man captive.” As for the “intense plane scene” Iris alluded to, I am hearing that it’s not so much intense as… different.

The Good Wife | In the wake of Alicia breaking up with Will, there’ve been a lot of questions, so I went digging around for answers. For starters, an insider tells me, yes, Will was in fact set to become a “commitment” guy and be there for Alicia when she gave him the hook. And though she cut him off at the pass, I am assured that Will will not be bitter – in part because, in his heart, he knows it’s best for the firm. As for those of you fretting that Good Wife will now amp up the flirtation between Will and newbie Caitlin (played by Anna Camp), I hear that will not be the case – if only because, my source notes, “Will is going to have a lot going on” with the State’s Attorney’s investigation and eventual legal action against him.

Chuck | If a guest-starring turn by Community‘s Danny Pudi isn’t enough to make you check out this Friday’s episode, know that significant skin will also be on display as Chuck and Sarah go undercover at nudist colony — and that created quite a challenge for Zachary Levi, who also directed the hour. “When I read the script the first time, I thought, ‘How the hell am I supposed to do this?!” Levi relates. “I haven’t seen this done on television before. Well, I have, but Game of Thrones is not really throwing blur boxes on it — and thank God for that.” The bigger challenge may have been sporting the (sparse) wardrobe. As series cocreator Chris Fedak quips, “I was like, ‘Zach’s robe is shorter than Yvonne’s. We made a mistake here.’”

The Lying Game | Speaking with series star Alexandra Chando at ABC Family’s Winter Wonderland party, I was sure to ask for the 411 on Char’s aunt, Annie Sewell, to be played by Buffyverse alum Charisma Carpenter. “She comes on as a foxy lady and stirs up some trouble,” Chando teased. “She definitely has a past with Alec (Adrian Pasdar) and Ted (Andy Buckley), and that’s revealed as soon as she sees both of them.” I then shared my take that the resemblance between Carpenter and Chando should not go unnoticed on the show. In fact, could this Annie be Emma and Sutton’s real mom? “I don’t know, maybe…,” Chando shrugged. “She very well could be!” (Lying Game returns Jan. 2.)

Against the Wall | I’ve had some readers ask if this Lifetime drama will be renewed for a second season, and as of Tuesday, Treat Williams claimed to not have “the faintest idea.” With a nod to the drama’s so-so ratings, he said, “[Lifetime is] a corporation and they’re going to make money, and if the show helps them, we’re on; if the show doesn’t, we’re not on…. If you look at the numbers, we were very much on the fence.” Whatever the outcome, Williams said, “I loved working there and it is a great cast to be with. But as an actor you just have to sit on the river and go with the flow.”


Casting About…. | Maybe the American Horror Story season finale won’t be as ugly as Taissa Farmiga makes it sound? The show’s final, yet-to-be-filled guest-starring role for Season 1 is “Helen,” a Jewish beautician. Let’s hope the shampoo girl is good at rinsing out blood…. 30 Rock, which launches its new season on Jan. 12, will be flashing back to Jack’s childhood, and as such is looking to cast a younger version of Emmy winner Elaine Stritch (who plays mom to Alec Baldwin). Applicants should probably have a Words With Friends account.

Hot in Cleveland Casts Ryan McPartlin in Season 3-TVLine

Ryan McPartlin has lined up his first post-Chuck gig.

The genetically blessed actor has booked a guest stint on Hot in Cleveland, TVLine has learned exclusively.

The actor will appear in an upcoming Season 3 episode that also marks the return of Susan Lucci. (The soap queen will once again be channeling a heightened version of herself.)

It’s unclear who McPartlin will be playing, but I’m told his character will cross paths with Lucci.

Cleveland‘s third season kicks off tonight on TV Land. Chuck, meanwhile, is set to wrap production on its last episode ever next week.

'Chuck's' Joshua Gomez: 'You're not supposed to like Morgan at this point'-From Inside the Box-Zap2it

The Morgan-as-Intersect storyline on "Chuck" has been, to judge by online opinion-sharing, a love-it-or-hate-it proposition over the first two episodes of the season.

The man at the center of the story gets it. Joshua Gomez knows what it's like to be a fan of something and watch it change gears -- but he also says the current story is not what viewers will be watching for the entirety of the final season.

"I was nervous at first, for many reasons. [Morgan] just getting the Intersect was such a crazy turn, and something I wasn't expecting," Gomez says. "And as I started to get the scripts and saw the character becoming what he's becoming and saw how it was affecting him, it was nerve-wracking. Our fans are really loyal, and they love Chuck, and I'm like, 'Oh crap. I'm gonna get things thrown at me for being a jerk.'"

Gomez knows what it's like to be frustrated as a fan. "When I read comic books and the writers would decide to take the thing down different paths, as a fan I'd be like, 'No! Come on!,' and throw the comic book across the room," he says. "Our fans are wonderful and passionate, and they have every right to go, No, I don't like this, or I do like this. ... They can think whatever they want. I try to stay clear of it because in some respects, it's not my business. I have a job to do, and I try to do it the best that I can."

Gomez adds that fans he's encountered this season have not, in fact, thrown anything at him. "Everyone has been really, really cool. We had a 'Chuck'-fest recently, and everyone was really supportive and really happy, especially after they saw a screening of episode 503. ... It was cool to see that, because I knew I had a little bit of a job ahead of me, winning people over to the idea of Morgan with the Intersect."

Episode 503, "Chuck vs. the Frosted Tips," airs Friday (Nov. 11) and brings one idea into very clear focus. As Gomez puts it, "You're not supposed to like Morgan at this point."

It was evident at the end of last week's show that the Intersect was doing something to Morgan, who not only forgot who Luke Skywalker was but also became increasingly distrustful of his best friend Chuck (Zachary Levi). Gomez says we'll find out what's happening to him in "Frosted Tips" and the following episode.

"I think whatever is happening to him, obviously the Intersect is to blame," Gomez says. "It's clearly not in Morgan's character to act the way he's been acting, and is going to continue to act, as you'll see [Friday]. But ... it's pulling out certain things that are inside of him. There are things that are definitely [part of] Morgan that now are bubbling to the surface. ... It's definitely malfunctioning, and that's definitely a huge part of it. But his own personality is sort of interwoven into the madness."

And once we -- and Chuck -- find out what's going on, things will come to a head pretty quickly. "There are effects from this arc with Morgan that are going to play out and are important to the rest of the season," Gomez says. "But Dark Morgan, Bizarro Morgan is not THE storyline for the whole season. This is part of the first act."

'Chuck': 'Epic' Sarah episode, more big shakeups on the way, co-creator Chris Fedak says-From Inside the Box-Zap2it

When Zap2it talked with "Chuck" co-creator Chris Fedak ahead of last week's season premiere, he answered our questions about the new Intersect, Chuck and Sarah's relationship at the start of the season and a little bit about how he sees the series ending.

Now that the first episode has aired, though, we (and others) have more questions. Fedak took part in a conference call Wednesday (Nov. 2) and talked about, among other things, an "epic" forthcoming episode for Sarah (Yvonne Strahovski), concerns some fans have about Morgan (Joshua Gomez) being the Intersect and the ride for the rest of the season. Some highlights from the call follow.

Are there any stories or people you want to bring back in the final episodes?
Chris Fedak: The second half of the season really draws us into the "Chuck" finale. And there are some big, emotional, epic things. We still have mysteries we're going to learn about Sarah and Casey [Adam Baldwin] and Chuck [Zachary Levi], and that last episode is -- we're really looking to blow it out in a way we've never done before. There are a number of stories that are currently in play, and if I had my druthers I'd try to do everything. And that's what I think I'm going to try to do. ... So yes. To answer the question, there are a number of characters and storylines we've set up in the past that I'd love to see one more time.

Some fans are not happy about Morgan being the Intersect -- what would you say to reassure them?
These are the first few chapters of the final season. With the Morgan story, I love Josh Gomez as the Intersect, and what he's done with it has been really, really funny, and we have some incredibly funny stuff coming up. But it's testing the bounds of the show. Especially in the first half of the season, the Chuck-Morgan bromance is ver much at the heart of the show, and how Morgan getting the Intersect affects that is a real change for the show. ...

I don't want to give anything away, but we wanted to address all our big stars in the final season of the show. ... From where we start now, each episode will change. The episode that airs on Friday [Nov. 4], we end in a very different place from where we began [the season]. By the end of [episode 3], things change again. ...

So it's not as if we're settling in and going, "This is the show from here on out." There are 13 episodes, and we'll be trying to blow it out each episode this season. So if it feels like we're pushing the story and being dramatic and we're messing with the foundation of the show, the answer is yes, we're doing that. Because it's the final season of the show, and we want to tell the most exciting story possible.

What can you say about the episode with Sarah's mom?
When we first started work on this season, I didn't think we would have the ability to tell that story, the Sarah's mom story. It was something we had built out over the years, just touching on it in very small ways, and we thought that would be one of the storylines we wouldn't be able to address. However as we got into the season, especially the second half ... we decided to focus on Sarah for an episode.

For those fans who love Sarah Walker, it will be your favorite episode ever. I'm considering "[Chuck vs.] Phase Three" and all the episodes that have come before it. It's an amazing, epic story that reveals a lot of secrets about Sarah that you could never have imagined are actually back there. We have Tim DeKay as Sarah's original handler, and Tim is fantastic in the show. He just brings incredible gravitas to this back story. It's not our funniest "Chuck" story -- this is really into epic land in regard to Sarah's past. Cheryl Ladd is wonderful and warm and caring and fantastic as her mother. It's an episode we're [editing] at the moment. For the Sarah Walker fanatics out there, it will be your favorite episode ever.

Alas, that episode won't air until mid-December at the earliest (and possibly not until January, depending on how NBC schedules the rest of the season). But "Chuck" does welcome Carrie-Anne Moss to the show in Friday's episode -- look for more on that on Zap2it on Thursday.

Chuck: Season 5 Spoilers from EP Chris Fedak-TVLine

The end is near, Chuck fans! In fact, it’s staring executive producer Chris Fedak in the face.

“Right now, we have Episode 13 on the board [in the writers room],” he shared during a Wednesday conference call with reporters. “It’s kind of like my panic attack that’s just waiting for me every day.”

The Chuck boss was coy about what exactly has found its way onto the board for that big series finale, but did reveal that plans are to “blow it out in a way we’ve never done before.”

So can fans expect closure? Or will the finale leave them with the hint of a new beginning? “In the past, I’ve always been a person who enjoys an ending that feels more like a prologue than an epilogue,” says Fedak. “Will we do that for the finale? That’s what we’re working on at the moment.”

But the biggest question many fans are probably wondering is: Will someone die? “I’m always a little gun-shy about killing off characters,” he replies. “But then again, it is the finale season of the show. Everything will change by the end.”

CASEY MEETS HIS MATCH | Matrix maven Carrie-Anne Moss makes her debut in this Friday’s episode (airing at 8/7c on NBC) as Gertrude Verbanski, whose company is the competition to Chuck’s new private spy venture. But more frightening – in a delightful way! – is what Gertrude does to the stoic Casey, with whom she shares a past. “The chemistry between Adam [Baldwin] and Carrie-Anne is amazing,” raves Fedak. “In our third episode, we have a fight between the two of them, which is the most erotically charged thing we’ve ever done on the show.” Case in point:



COMPUTER WHIZ | Remember how saavy Chuck was with a PC when the show started? Prepare for the return of that “amazing computer guy” in the season’s fifth episode, “Chuck vs. the Hackoff,” directed by leading man Zachary Levi himself. “It’s probably one of the nerdier episodes we’ve ever done,” previews Fedak. “It’s got some amazing hacking sequences. We took our lead from Swordfish.”

SARAH WALKER, REVEALED | The Sarah Walker Fan Club may explode with joy after Episode 8, which features Cheryl Ladd (Charlie’s Angels) as the spy gal’s mom and Tim DeKay (White Collar) as her original handler. “For those fans who love Sarah Walker, it will be your favorite episode ever,” declares Fedak. “It is an amazing, epic story that reveals a lot of secrets about Sarah that you could never have imagined are actually back there.” And while it’s not one of the spy comedy’s funniest stories, it is a “jawdropping” adventure into “epicland,” Fedak reiterates.

MORGAN’S ZOOM | Finding yourself frustrated by Morgan’s behavior as the new Intersect? That’s kind of the point. “It’s testing the bounds of the show,” explains Fedak. More precisely, it’s testing one of the show’s big relationships, which hasn’t changed much in four seasons. “The Chuck/Morgan bromance is very much at the heart and center of the show, and how Morgan getting the Intersect affects that is a real change for [us].” Prepare for an even more disturbing side of Morgan when things between Chuck and his pal come to “an amazing head” in Episode 3.

THE NEW JEFFSTER | “Everything will change inside the Buy More, especially in regards to Jeff and Lester,” teases Fedak. As a result, “we will not see [the band] for quite some time.” Here’s hoping these two find their way back to each other because it looks like Lester might become wayward without his other half. “By Episode 5,” Fedak warns, “we’re going to see Lester in prison.”

Chuck Scoop: Rebecca Romijn Brings Sexy Bad

AN AWESOME NEW JOURNEY | Sounds like a big move might be in store for Chuck’s sis and brother-in-law. “They’ve got big success in their future,” says Fedak of Ellie and Awesome. “It’s time for them to start making decisions about where they want to go and what they want to do… [For Ellie] is it time to cut the strings and not feel like she has to take care of her brother.”

CHUCK VS. THE LAST-MINUTE REPRIEVE? | Although Fedak and his team are “focused on delivering an epic finale” for the series, would they be up for more if the show was miraculously handed an extension? “If someone would offer me the chance to write more Chuck stories, I would always say yes to it because I love these characters,” says Fedak. But such a miracle would require some reworking in the writers room. “I don’t think about that bridge until I’m halfway across it,” he says, “and both sides are burning down.”

Fringe Delayed By World Series Game 7-TVLine

In another timeline, the Youngstown Buckeyes beat the Kansas City Royals last night in Game 6 of the World Series.

But in the reality we here live in, Game 7 of the Rangers-Cards showdown will air tonight on Fox, forcing Fringe — featuring the now extra-long-awaited return of Peter Bishop — to ride the pine.


UPDATE: And no, CityTV will not be broadcasting the new Fringe episode in Canada, my peer at TV Guide Canada tells me.

The Cardinals’ good news of a final lifeline is also bad news for NBC’s Chuck, which will now premiere its final season against the deciding game of the Fall Classic. Likewise, NBC’s Grimm (at 9/8c) will now debut against Game 7′s later innings. And a Peacock insider says there’s “no chance” the network will blink and go with repeat programming instead.

Fringe (and yes, Kitchen Nightmares) will now resume their seasons Friday, Nov. 4.

Braveheart actor Angus Macfadyen is joining NBC’s Chuck for a multi-episode arc as the show’s last major villain, sources confirm to TVLine exclusively.

Exclusive Chuck Video: Carmichael Industries’ First Crisis

Macfadyen — who co-starred as Mel Gibson’s noble compatriot in the Oscar-winning film — will play Nicholas Quinn, a former CIA agent who now runs a mercenary spy ring.

Like Chuck, he’s a spy for hire. Unlike Chuck, he only works for bad guys.

Macfadyen’s arc will span the last four episodes of Chuck‘s fifth and final season (premiering Friday).

The Scottish actor’s TV credits include Alias, Californication and the short-lived ABC drama Miracles.

World Series Game 6 Postponed, Possible Game 7 Will Bump Fringe, Face Off With Chuck Season 5 Premiere-TVLine

This might make baseball — and Chuck and Fringe — fans want to charge the mound!

Due to inclimate weather in St. Louis, Game 6 of the World Series has been pushed back to Thursday, meaning a potential tie-breaking Game 7 would air — gasp! — Friday night. So, what does all of this mean for Peter’s return to Fox’s Fringe and the premiere of Chuck on NBC?


Sadly, fans awaiting Joshua Jackson’s full-fledged return to the sci-fi drama may have to bide their time just a little bit longer, as Fox tells TVLine they would bump the broadcast if there’s a Game 7 (which will begin at 7:30 ET).

Chuck‘s fifth and final opener, meanwhile, would end up airing opposite a possible Game 7, as would the series premiere of Grimm. (An NBC source tells TVLine there’s no chance the network would push back the premieres a week to steer clear of a Game 7.)

Fox has slotted two Glee repeats (“The Rocky Horror Glee Show” and “Silly Love Songs”) to air in place of the World Series tonight, while the scheduled Bones reruns on Thursday have been scrapped.

Ausiello: There’s more to it. According to executive producer Bob Daily, “There is a big reveal at the end of the first episode that ties us back into the first season in an interesting way.” Daily confirms that it involves Mary Alice’s suicide but shoots down talk that the character will somehow turn up in the flesh. “She’s dead,” he insists. ” We’re not going to mess with the DNA of the show. We’re going to pay homage to it.”

Question: I am dying for a hint on the Gossip Girl pregnancy. Do you have anything to share? —Jennifer
Ausiello: Someone is pregnant and it’s not Dorota. Beyond that, my lips are sealed.

Question: Any chance my favorite Gossip Girl couple, Dan and Serena, will reunite next season? —Derena
Ausiello: Serena will attempt to get back in Dan’s good graces when she returns from Los Angeles, but — shocker — she has ulterior motives.

Question: Do you have any idea how Glee‘s Sam Evans is going to be written off the show? Witness Protection Program? Eaten by dinosaurs? —Pinsleric
Ausiello: The answer is C) His family moves out of state… apparently to Indiana!

Question: Will Glee finally introduce Rachel’s gay dads this season? —Justin
Ausiello: No immediate plans that I know of. However, it appears producers are making good on their promise to give Mike Chang a mom and dad. The show is quietly casting an Asian couple — stylish wife, conservative dad — to potentially recur this season.

Question: Could you give us a hint as to who is going to be the new Dean of Medicine on House? —Máté
Ausiello: The job will be given to (drumroll, please) one of these seven people. Now for some FRESH House scoop: The opening teaser of the Oct. 10 episode will be unlike anything you’ve seen on House before. Heck, I’ll go so far as to say it’s unlike anything you’ve seen on TV before.

Question: I am begging for some Pretty Little Liars scoop! Please tell me you’ve got something. —Estee
Ausiello: I’ve got something! In an effort to boost the show’s lagging Dirty Old Men Age 55-90 demo, the midseason finale will feature a jaw-dropping sequence involving hot girls and mud!

Question: I’ve just spent the last week watching every single episode of Chuck. I know what’s been said, but is there anything we can do to help this awesome show reach 100 episodes? —Nicole

Ausiello: One of my favorite Jax/Tara scenes ever takes place in the Sept. 6 premiere. Nothing flashy. It’s just the two of them lying in bed post-coitus talking about their future. Speaking of which, look for Tara to make a surprising announcement in Episode 2.

Question: Can I get a tidbit, great or small, involving Sons of Anarchy? Specifically anything to do with Jax’s continued rivalry with Clay. —Reshef
Ausiello: Actually, the two of them are on pretty good terms in the first three episodes. They actually make a pact to [spoiler] in exchange for [spoiler]. In other news, look for the tension to get ratcheted up between Gemma and Tara when the former suspects the latter of being a little too up-to-speed on Teller family history.

Question: Ask Ausiello is the highlight of my week. But I have a bone to pick with you. For the love of God, give me some dirt on the most under-appreciated series on TV, Sons of Anarchy! —Paige
Ausiello: The body count in the premiere is high, even by SOA‘s lofty standards.

Ausiello: Would you believe me if I told you that a major character becomes a professional escort in Season 4?

Ausiello: Would you believe me if I told you that the major character that becomes a professional escort in Season 4 is Annie?

Question: Are there any plans for Audra McDonald to return to Private Practice this season? —Jarrod
Ausiello: “Anything’s possible in Shondaland,” muses McDonald’s onscreen BFF Kate Walsh. “The door’s open for her to come back.” If Naomi does find her way back to the West Coast one day, it won’t be to rekindle things with her ex. “We all miss [Audra],” says her onetime leading man Taye Diggs. “But as far as Sam and Naomi are concerned, I feel like we’ve beaten that horse to death.” Agreed.

Question: Do you have any Private Practice scoop on Charlotte and Cooper? Possibly a baby in the future? —Sarah
Ausiello: It would appear the ball remains in Charlotte’s court on that front. “That’s a constant conflict between them,” reminds Cooper’s portrayer, Paul Adelstein. “Cooper has been gung-ho for children for a long time. Charlotte has always been a little lukewarm on the subject.” Besides, as Adelstein notes, “They want to enjoy married life for a while.” (Ha, good luck with that.)

Question: What’s the latest on the return of Crowley on Supernatural? —Claire
Ausiello: The latest is his portrayer Mark Sheppard steadfastly refuses to confirm any particulars. “Look at the Season 7 trailer [shown at Comic-Con],” he says. “There’s a shot of me in the trailer, so obviously I must appear somewhere at the beginning of the season, doing something. You never know — maybe I appear for five seconds and get blown up? [Laughs] You never know, man.” As for what Crowley’s take on Castiel’s new godly status might be, he said, “It’s not really a promotion, is it? He managed to consume those souls, so we’ll see what happens as a result. I think Crowley’s in the ‘Better you than me, mate’ camp — if he gets a chance to comment on it!” OK, Cagey McCagerson.

Question: Any word about Criminal Minds exploring Reid’s headaches further this season? —Meredith
Ausiello: The issue is not addressed in the first batch of episodes. What is addressed early on— by Reid himself — is his past drug abuse.

Question: I know you absolutely hate the show but I’d love some One Tree Hill scoop, please. —Samantha via Facebook
Ausiello: Is it out there that a major character gets *i**a**** this season? If it is, please don’t hurt me. I don’t have time to read every spoiler that gets posted to the Interwebnet. I just don’t. Between running an empire and dodging earthquakes, my hands are pretty full.

Ausiello: The show wasn’t able to get Dan Akroyd to make a cameo in its Ghostbusters-themed Halloween episode. Bummer.

Question: Anything new on the How I Met Your Mother front? —Colin
Ausiello: There’s buzz that a major castmember will be full-on streaking in an early episode — or as full on as one can on network television. Jason Segel certainly has experience doing the full monty on camera, but, for my money, this has Barney Stinson written all over it.

Ausiello: It’s not five, though it’s at least two. Until then, you can be assured that his presence (or lack of?) will definitely be felt.
